I did flatbed for a year with pgt and the veteran flatbedder who trained me gave me a tip that I'll pass along. When your on your catwalk getting chains and binders disconnect the air lines because it would be very easy to get your feet caught up in them and take a header off the truck.

I'm confused... what do you mean, trip and fall off your truck? You said take a header OFF THE TRUCK. What is the header, and how does it come off the truck if you trip? You're mean break off the airlines?
@bdmenne

Ever head a soccer ball, a header? Tripping would give the ground a header and that is not as fun a game to play.

@@Tryinnosaurus_Rex Yep ---- your handle is SPOT ON. But to be kinder than I used to be when I was a Drill Sergeant in the Waffen SS - a header is to fall off your truck and land on your head or neck/shoulders which can cause paraplegia or even quadriplegia.

Good to see you took my advice and did MOST of your chaining down with BOTH FEET ON THE GROUND !!!!!!!!!!!!!. VERY VERY WISE IN WET CONDITIONS. Good to see that you used those 'counter thread dogs' to secure the load and not traditional dogs. So easy to slip and fall in wet weather with the latter.

Here in Scotland we would never be allowed to carry that load or pipe etc without a 1.5m headboard. We also can carry approx 28-29 tons of cargo but on six axles. Our roads are nowhere near as good as you have. Interesting the differences in operations. Keep up the good work 👍👍

Nice securement Dale. Thanks for the video of it. I like the simple but effective chain slack securing. When I was hauling bulldozers and other yellow equipment for my Dad back in the late 80's and early 90's I never had the bungy or rubber straps so the slack chain was an ugly mess most of the time.

Hey Dale, great video tutorial on the flat bed securement. Though currently i am doing orientation for TMC. I have recently learned a few things that i would like to point out for better safety to you. Up by your headache rack, beginning of the video you were stacking a couple of oak 4x4 and chained them to a snap binder. I watched a video in class of a test with somewhat of a similar setup to yours only 3 inches of distance between the loaded bars, and the oak wood wall made with chains and snap binder. We use Ratchet binders for our setup, and try to skew away from the snap binders as much as possible. The truck was in a simulator setup to slam on the brakes going 55mph, with 1 row of pipes. As soon as the truck stopped, the pipe BLEW threw the oak 4x4, cleared through the headache rack, and almost struck through the passenger seat. Only because there was a 3 inch gap between the 4x4 oak wood and the pipe. If the pipe is firmly touching the wood wall, and you were to come to a complete stop there should be no issue, because the pipe has no momentum and force prior to the unexpected stop. This is not to jump your case, but thought to throw a few things out there to better help with Safety!!

The best way to to have the Lumber set up prior to loading and have them butt the loaded material up against it. That is not always possible due to the shipper loading methods. So when putting lumber on after being loaded I get as close as I can and still have a secure place to chain it to the trailer effectively. The best Tip I go by is never get in a position to have to slam on your brakes. So far I have been blessed with safe travels. Question for you. Does TMC have APU's in their trucks yet? I know when I applied with TMC they did not. Just curious if that has changed yet.
@hayzeproductions7093
@hayzeproductions7093 7 жыл бұрын
Yep! along with Direct tv satellite and tv already installed in every truck. If you want an automatic, they are fixing to grab another 5 or 600 to there fleet. The reason why they didnt have APU's in there trucks before was because those trucks were old and they didnt want to spend extra $$$ to keep adding on to them. So they had Peterbelt pre install the APU's to there new trucks, You applied with TMC? why are you not working with them?

I would have built my bulk header right up against my load. If you where to to do a hard stop for any reason that load was to shift foward it would have less inertia motion and the bulk head would have a better chance at stoping its forward motion.

You made no mention of the 'choker('strangler') straps at front and rear of this load. Did you apply these or are they part of the load. In any case a VERY IMPORTANT PART OF LOAD SECUREMENT that minimizes risk of one or more beams sliding forward under sudden severe braking. Normally I use choker chains not straps. Can't get over those extra wide single drive tires. !!! They penalise your weight allowance for using them ?????????????????

In his gestures are much like Sergei Dratchev, a truck driver Heavy Haul, which puts many videos to KZbin, Sergei Dratchev is someone a little older than you, but in speech and gestures in the face, and a little on the shape of the face, looks like you (sorry for my English)

I don’t understand why you chained it. 4” straps are stronger and have more slip resistance than chain, not to mention they are a hell of a lot quicker. Must be a company thing.
