Really like this new type of video! Hope you do more in the future. You being around insanely talented skaters all the time definitely gives you the opportunity to approach these videos from a more journalistic perspective, and i’m glad you’re doing it!

Dan may end up as the #1 skateboarding channel in the world. Every video he makes has great vibes, regardless of the format. And it always feels like core skating. Because Dan lives and breathes skating. I remember when Dan would just randomly show up on dale deckers channel and everyone called him dirty Dan lol. Dude was going to be skating either way. He deserves to be supported financially by the industry

Some things I would like to change in skateboarding: Ruining shoes so dramatically fast should be challenged more. Outside of that, it wouldn’t be bad if gravity goes down a notch.

I don't skate, but i sorta understand. I love classic cars. I actuall just came in from putting new rims on my 63' Bel Air.... 2 F**KING HOURS to put a set of rims on. When i was said and done and i got to step back, well, i felt good to get it done and see the result. That translates to any hobby someone is passionate about. Trying a trick for 2 hours must get you to the end of your rope, but when you get it down clean, it's gotta feel amazing. Classic cars only break knuckles tho so, much respect for putting your bodies on the line for that dopamine hit. It's gotta be a step above with the effort it takes.

Excellent video. Life happened and I had a twenty year break from skateboarding. My city built our first ever public skatepark last year. I went and checked it out and fell back in love. Seven months in and I tore my acl and meniscus at work and it took skating away. Laying in bed doing physical therapy dreaming about being on my boat. This was thought provoking and I really enjoyed it. I ❤🛹

Skateboarding rules….. like regardless of pro not pro, getting paid, riding this brand, doing those tricks…… all of that is just noise. But just skateboarding, is fucking incredible!!! Like it’s so many things to so many people. And some it’s absolutely everything. It’s saved some people and it’s kept people in relatively good shape. It’s fun for all ages, races, gender, even capabilities….. Skateboarding just rules🤷🏼♂️

I remember back in the 90's in Australia, "pro's" were just skaters that got probably a couple of hundred bucks a month and free decks. Is it a proper living? That's the question. What's changed?

@Spartan-301st6 ай бұрын
The somewhat downplayed aspect of being a pro skater, as an outsider, appears to be this… “The” defining feature of being a pro skater is essentially being a marketer of products. Sure, the skating itself and style are the most important. But being a “pro” means you are being paid to essentially throw down tricks with all of the gear you are sponsored by, and thus trying to market to others. The best marketers will be the most financially successful. But if someone can skate and make some money along the way, then they are living the dream.

In my humble opinion, of course A "pro skater" is an ideology of skate boarders where they believe that being good enough at skateboarding will allow them to pay bills through the sport. Being a "professional skateboarder" is the actual reality of paying bills through various means of skateboarding. These kids think they will go pro and someone else will come in and put the pieces together for them. They have ideology for wanting to be a pro skater, but they dont take the steps neccesary to be an actual professional. Chris is a good example of a dude trying to be a real professional. His channel isnt the most popular but he networks like crazy. If you watch skaters from cali you know who chris is at this point

Athlete pay is a tough one imo. Its nice that players get such a big % of the profit they produce but also sucks that a basketball jersey is 120$ and the towel boy is poverty level while cleaning up $50,000,000 sweat.
@SAsh-zg6ln6 ай бұрын
Ur looking at it wrong. Those nba players are the top 1% of the top 1% of athletes. They beat out millions of other basketball players to get to the point where they can make millions. The towel boy is simply living the dream of being around the athletes. That towel boy isn’t the best of the best and that isn’t their end goal. No one is a towel boy their whole career. In other words, if ur the best at something and no one else can do it, you’ll be paid. If ur average, you’ll get an average pay. If ur doing a job, that doesn’t require much skill, u won’t get paid much
@CaneCorso456 ай бұрын
@@SAsh-zg6ln No you're looking at it wrong. The towel boy has bills and many consumers can't even afford to enjoy the sports events now because prices are so insanely high. I like that the athletes get a good % of what they produce but no one else involved should be making poverty wages. If no one cleaned the stadium after games the players would have nowhere to play. Like I said athletes are a tough one because they are the product but don't do the rich bidding for them and say the towel boy doesn't contribute enough to make a fair, living wage.
@SAsh-zg6ln6 ай бұрын
@@CaneCorso45 low wage isn’t intended to be living wage. Minimum wage and low wage jobs are stepping stones. That guy cleaning the stadium is making minimum wage now but when him and a couple other guys start their own cleaning business, they’ll make good money. For corporate America jobs, if ur not constantly making ur resume more competitive by education and experience, then you’ll stay broke. If ur working in fast food or retail and don’t have hopes in being promoted, that’s on u. No one is forcing anyone to work minimum wage or low wage jobs til they die. Btw I say this as someone who’s parents worked in fast food for years before buying their own restaurant and selling it years later to retire. Trust me it’s very possible and doesn’t require much. I also say this as someone who works in corporate America. I’ve had years where I was making 120k and now because the job market is terrible, I’m making less. I’m not happy about it but I understand the logic. I studied and passed a certification exam that allows me to have a stronger resume. All this to say, if u don’t like ur position in life, do something about it. Or be lucky
@CaneCorso456 ай бұрын
@@SAsh-zg6ln you’re cucked by the rich. You like eating at McDonald’s on your lunch break? Highschool kids are in school during that time some adult has to be there working and that person needs to be able to survive. You can not survive on minimum wage today.
@thebrokenskater6 ай бұрын
if the company you skate for pushes you until you feel like youre gonna die then no, its not worth it.
@DarkoNomad6 ай бұрын
No, it's not worth it at all. If you really love it work for it, not from it. Ride what you like, how you like, wherever you like it. Don't be a slave of any brand or team, be yourself above all. Skateboarding is awesome and amazing but there's so much joy and pleasure that you might miss by being focused on tricks and pro title.

How are athletes overpaid? Thats a blasphemous statement.
@domjuan94223 ай бұрын
Athletes being overpaid is such a stupid notion. If anything athletes are extremely underpaid. Football (soccer) generates billions with the athletes working their entire lives for the development of the sport yet they only take 8% of the total profits of the sport. So that means 92% of the money generated is taken by huge companies. If anything athletes deserve more money rather than fat men in suits taking the money from them.
