Drum Major Bill Barclay providing some training in the art of the Mace flourish during Ballater Games day in August 2021. Bill Barclay is the Drum Major with Towie Pipe Band in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and has over 55 years experience with Pipe Bands, including many years as Drum Major with Grampian Police Pipe Band. He's a well known and respected master of the mace flourish (spins and throws) entertaining the public at many Scottish Highland Games.
The second Thursday in August each year is Ballater Highland Games day in beautiful Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. With the Games cancelled for 2021 due to Covid, the committee marked the occasion in Monaltrie Park, Ballater, with a picnic and fun day. This included local dancers, pipers, musicians and this session with Bill Barclay.

Absoluteky Brilliant My Dad was Senior Drum Major for the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers Massed Bands … I so miss seeing a Drum Major who knows how to twirl and throw a mace … and of course catching it without breaking step … Bravo
