This was great. I was out of breath just watching the dancers! Loved the outfits, too. Thanks for sharing.

I'm part Scottish but how they got that dance out of that music I will never know. Amazing performance.

I know the music ie bagpipes is vile..Grates on the ear but the dance is sublime...

Both the music and the dance have evolved together a LONG way from their origins. Tempos were considerably faster even when I was a kid, which is less than 5 centuries ago. Highland singing and mouth-music has a strain with this kind of rhythm that has a beat tempo comparable to the fast walking pace of short women, and this abrupt rhythm that alternates long notes with short notes (daaa b' daaa b' daaa kind of beat). I had a piping instructor once from the Hebrides and he taught us several of the common bagpipe dance tunes using the source Gaelic mouth-music his family and neighbors would still sing for small dances, that's long ago been formalized into military style bagpipe playing and technique. The dance has also been very formalized with ballet influence.

The dance was awesome, but it was really hard to not listen to the guy in the background hahaha! "We've only had about 4 or 5 people die in the last couple years. Er that was a joke. We've never lost anybody" hahahaha

Pink tartan. Which clan is that?

@@jellybeans3994 The notification included the part that you edited out about them being "plaids, not tartans' -- I thought that sounded right. was I wrong?
@marionpringle4163 жыл бұрын
No you aren’t wrong. These are versions of tartans. The dancers like plenty of white in their kilts and so they choose modern versions of clan tartans or new tartans which have been developed for the purpose. I can’t be sure about the pink tartan. The male dancer is wearing the Strathclyde tartan. Military kilts are pleated differently.

The man is Australian right? Not that that matters one jot...I was watching this and thinking how it would look if no under-wear was being worn (Scots traditionally favouring the Commando approach when wearing kilts)...it certainly would have made for interesting viewing! This dance looks difficult and extremely taxing on the tendons...it just makes me think of Red Deer...majestic and incredibly strong and agile.

I am a former Highland dancer who also competed in snare drumming. At one of the games I was competing in, a very good looking snare judge went regimental ;-)

Be truthful, who was checking out the left skirt and who was checking out the right skirt .... at least we would get the statistics for the count of the genders watching ha ha ha Jokes aside the performance was great, I would like to know if they won the competition. I feel they would have deserved it.
@kirsteencampbell64895 жыл бұрын
bugder I’m not sure about the female dancer, but as an Australian I am pretty sure that the gent on the right is Hamish McInness. Also an Australian. He came 6th in the world at Cowal this year. His Swords and Seann Truibhas are 🤩

@eilidhmaccaillach46404 жыл бұрын
Kirsteen Campbell it’s actually a kilt not a skirt, the tartan skirts are on a different traditional outfit for national dances called the aboyne, (men wear tartan trousers) this is the traditional highland military dress obviously slightly modernised with these bright colours. Have since day xx
