Nevada Road Trip: Bombs, Burgers, Brothels, & Bars

The Mojave Desert around Fabulous Las Vegas is a fascinating place. Join us on a circle tour, about 180 miles from Vegas and back, and let's see what we can find on that big open road! We will head north on U.S. 95, stopping at Indian Springs and the Nevada Test Site; then turn onto State Route 160 towards tiny Crystal, Nevada, Pahrump, and Mountain Springs. Along the way we'll discover Air Force bases, cool roadside rest stops, a historic burger joint, old abandoned brothels and bars (plus a couple active ones), and then wind things up with dinner at a mile-high biker hangout. Sound intriguing? Let's go!

Nice opening! I have been anxiously waiting for this video for a while! Been to Indian Springs so many times. I have actually won a little bit of money in the Terrible's Casino more than a few times! Cool info on the town of Mercury. Love the old signs. Hate to see a good brothel close. Nice that the Short Branch saloon might open up again. Love the book exchange! Tina and I visited Pahrump one day, after visiting Ash Meadows a site in Death Valley. The Chicken Ranch looks pretty neat! The menu at Shari's Ranch actually looks pretty good, and not too expensive. Mountain Springs Saloon looks just amazing! The most dollar bills I have ever seen in any place was in Oatman, Arizona at the Oatman Hotel, Restaurant and Saloon, where Clark Gable and Carol Lombard spent their Honeymoon. That is always a great view heading back into Las Vegas at night; the lights are amazing! I loved this video. I hope to see more of these to come!

I love these parts of Nevada, it's so barren and desolate, it's almost like being on another planet - I sometimes wonder what it's like to live out here, so far out from everything - that drive from Pahrump to Vegas over the mountain pass seeing the glimmering lights of Vegas below is spectacular and unforgettable

What a fun road trip! We drove through Indian Springs the last time we were in Las Vegas and as the military people were leaving the base for the day, a group of local people were on the side of the road saluting them. It was so special to see them being honored like that!

I love road trips. I take a 2 week road trip every year in the summer. I’ve kris-crossed the country several times, gone up into Canada via car, and planning to go to Alaska in the next few years. Definitely keep up the road trip videos. I love them! Great video!

Big Boy!!!!! Back in HS in Chicago the local Big Boy was one of our favorite hangouts. My favorite burger: the Brawny Lad. Memories! I have a Pahrump story. Too long to go into, but it does involve brothels and geology. If we ever meet, I'll tell you about it and all l can say is - I never fail to exceed my ability to embarrass myself. Really love this video guys. Absolutely well done and really interesting. Fascinating, actually. Keep it up.

The last time I visited Pahrump, it was in 1972. There was a hole in the wall bar with one blackjack table. We were advised not to play blackjack there because the rumor was that you would never see your winnings if you won. Back then, then there were a handful of run down shacks right off the highway. Most of the road was not paved. Dale and Paula, if I am incorrect, please advise.
