Dallas @ Atlanta December 21, 1992 Monday Night Football.
One of my favorite games of the run they had. They went right after Deion and embarrassed him and the falcons in their own building.
Also after the clips the espn recap including an interview by Chris Mortensen with Emmitt Smith

Sanders wasn’t really that good. He played so far off his man to try to get the jump for interceptions that a disciplined wideout like Irvin, Rice, Brown would always stack stats against him.

That's why he was the playmaker. Despite not being a speed guy, at the time he retired he had a higher yards per catch (by about a full yard) than the other superstar WRs of his era.

Best wide receiver ever! Imo...the offensive scheme, hurt him statistically, but emmitt became all time leading rusher because of it..if the cowboys had run a forty niner type offense his numbers would've been off the chart...Great hands ,No fear, great great routes. He was pretty fast for his size. Why he able to consistently beat up on the best corners of his time!

In the 1994 NFC Championship game, the Cowboys' first 3 possessions ended in Aikman INT, Smith FUM, and Irvin FUM, and gave the 49ers a 21 to 0 lead. The rest of the game, Dallas absolutely dominated and nearly came back in won. Sanders had nothing to do with that SF victory, but the Triplets early screw ups did the Cowboys in.

I felt like the 49ers (my team) and the Cowboys fans had grown a respect for each other over the years as rivals and for being the only teams that mattered during the playoffs from '92-'94, the NFC title game aka "The real Super Bowl." My family is from Texas so all of my cousins are Dallas Cowboy fans. Hell even my mom pulled for them. So it's kinda disappointing hearing so many Cowboy fans making excuses for that '94 loss or using "would've could've should've" reasoning. Excuses could also be made for what happened in '95. No more Deion (on the Cowboys), no Ricky Watters, many departed players and an injured Steve Young...people laughed at us and said the Cowboys would smoke us in that '95 reg season game played in Dallas. Yet with Elvis Grbac and Derek Loville we pounded on Dallas. Maybe they lucked into not having to play us in those '95 playoffs eh? I dunno, but what I do know is excuses can be made both ways for various reasons but end of the day that rivalry was GREAT.
5 жыл бұрын
SF had no chance in the '95 playoffs. Dallas OWNED SF from '92 through '95, no question. Officiating made SF win the '94 NFC game and nothing else. Stop your whining, it doesn't look good on a grown man.

I agree. Deion was outstanding in coverage but tackled like my grandmother. There were better overall corners than Deion even during his era. Darrell Green and Rod Woodson are two that come to mind. Rod Woodson was also an excellent safety later in his career. Ronnie Lott also started out as a CB but was switched to safety by Bill Walsh. I'd take any one of those 3 over Deion

Rod Woodson is by far the best corner back in history and was a pretty good safety near the end of his career. With 17 years in the NFL, Woodson never had a season without an interception, and has the third most interceptions in history (71). He also has the second most interception return yards (1,483), and the most interception return touchdown, with 12. A Hall of Fame player, with 11 Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl ring to top it off. Sanders was one of the best all around players and could do it all, but the best CB, no. Just one mans opinion.

Deion was a 1 in a million player and should not be disrespected. What is so disturbing, as a lifelong Cowboy fan-going back to Roger Staubach, is the idea that the way Jimmy Johnson was dealt with probably cost the Cowboys at least 2 or 3 more Super Bowl appearances. That is presumptious but may also be true. That's not to speak of the way Landry was rudely booted out.

Is it me or it just sounds like Dallas played every game that season like it was a home game with all those Cowboys fans in the stands. If I was an opposing fan in the stands and have to hear all that hooting and hollering from another teams fanbase I'd be fuming over it. Sure it's fine and it's fun to have fans from opposing teams following you wherever you go, but for the home team that would drive me bonkers.

Emmitt sets a standard that today’s players could learn a lot from! It is not a me sport it is a team sport people like Bell make me sick to my stomach! It is all about look at me look at me and dollar signs! Yes we all want to feel we received the best salary we could but never in a sports game should that be the deciding factor for playing. I have been a nurse for 42yrs. And never got anywhere near my worth. I have saved countless life’s educated and been available to my pediatric patients towards the last 10 yrs of nursing and yes gone to the hospital and had to comfort a mother and taken her baby to the morgue because she only trusted me the pain she felt broke my heart! It always does with kids and any patient except those in so much uncontrolled pain who beg us to help them stop hurting and we cannot for them it is a relief that they r out of pain. And no there is no one pain med for any situation that can stop that for a variety of reasons. At any rate it is nurses firemen police and teachers in the front lines giving all we have to give because we are called to our profession for one reason or another but to help make a day to day difference with a patient is all we need to know that when u give all u can to help those who need it I can put my head down at night knowing I did all I could that day to help. My salary shows now of that nor ever will. Even being a military wife for 15 yrs and still a military mother and they do not get paid the way they should. Again the athletes who think they r gods gift to the game need to be taught they are not. Emmitt never thought he was he played with heart and soul he earned every single yard he got to place him 1 st in NFL history above Payton he also took over Payton’s kids under his wings and helped them he did not have to he did not get paid for that it was his love if the game and people his personal life he gave willingly. He could of refused to throw text book blocks for others for fear of injury but he didn’t he did whatever he could to help his team win. Can u imagine how many more yards he would if had?! Today’s athletes act like they are special better than anyone not all but quite a few play only for money. It is so sad that they do not play for the love of the game! For team loyalty granted not every player fits in each time and they need to play somewhere else but not because of money. I can’t even afford a ticket to see a live game or take my grandkids to a game because players cost so much and owners sure as hell are not gonna lose money either so we the fans pay the price. In the future with all the cost the constant changing rules and the arrogant players I can see football be downsized dramatically and soccer take over god forbid. Players like Emmitt are few and far between his work ethic his morale code his hard play on the field and his giving back and kindness off the field are truly what makes him one of the top five cowboys of all time for me. Please let the football world revamp the players attitudes refuse to pay outrageous money take the ones whose hearts and loyalty and love of the game with talent in regards to their positions and kick out the prima donna’s of the game. Maybe then we could afford tickets be able to buy a jersey with a name and know it will last for awhile Emmitt I still wear yours with pride thank you for making the game fun and for all you have done off the field. You mean the game where Irvin had 12 rec for 192 yds and 2 td's??? If it weren't for the blatant pass interference Deion got away with on the final drive, the Cowboys may very well have come back and won that game. Deion was a all time great cover corner, but "the play maker" would dominate him at will.

Deion was brought in by SF mostly because of Alvin Harper , not Irvin. Harper was the one torching the 49ers in the key moments of the 2 previous NFC Championship games . So the fact Irvin got loose for the 12 receptions and 2 TDs were because of the defensive coverages designed to try to take away the deep ball which Harper provided for Dallas during that time. Irvin just feasted on more of the short to mid-range passes because of it.That & the mere fact Dallas got off to a horrible start in that game and were forced to throw more than normal because they spent the game playing catchup. How I wished Jimmy Johnson had stayed in Dallas! Ken Norton would have never been in a 49ers uniform and they would have played with more discipline than they shown during the start of that game.

Primetime! The king of checking #2 receivers. The number one receiver will be destroying but as long as primetime shut that #2 receiver down. Aeneas Williams and Rod Woodson checked the #1 receivers. Woodsin shut Irvin down in the Super bowl after coming off a season ending injury

Grab or not, the little longer sleeves on the jerseys are a much better look in my view. Also, the chopped-off sleeves of today make it necessary to abbreviate the stripes giving them an unfinished look. Lastly, today there is no longer uniformity from the shoes to the knees. It's a crap shoot as to the color of a team's shoes ( anything but black. Please.) to the color and striping of socks. All thirty-two teams hodgepodge from the knees down.
