That was one of those story lines in the show never mentioned again because it was overtaken in time by another story line. In this case Ray being Jock's son in the series had more more longevity in it. Like the Wes Parmalee story line they never really explained it or accounted for it, it was just dropped and never mentioned afterwards.

Skipped right to the comments because im halfway through season one and I dont want to spoil anything for me since I dont remember any of it. But so Ray and Lucy had a incest relationship at the beginning. That to me would be a bigger scandal then when that one guy tried to cheat Pam out of money claiming he was married to her. But reading on Wikipedia Steve Kanaly said in a way that he wished the first part in season one could be forgotten about. Im guessing he didn't like the idea of his characters flings? And considered leaving but Larry Hagman stood up for him and convinced somebody to expand Ray's Character. Is that right? Or did I get it wrong?

I read something like that too: Steve Kanaly wasn't satisfied with his character so he wanted to leave. So the writers changed the story in oder to give more opportunities to Ray as Jock's son and they buried his affair with Lucy.

Something that I noticed about Jock Ewing/Jim Davis in the last couple of episodes. If you look at his face, it looks really, really blown up. You can tell that the chemotherapy and/or the medication that he is taking for his cancer treatment is taking its toll on him. I felt really bad for him. Does this mean Ray is the oldest brother? Or was JR conceived/born before Jock shipped out to Europe? According to the timeline (from diary)...Ray was 1 year old in October 1946, so he would be about 35 years old in 1980. If my memory is correct, Ray was born on October 19, 1946 (baby boomer for sure) and since the Dallas season started in the fall, that would make him an even 35 years old in October 1981. My guess, is that Ray is the oldest child and the first in line of succession.
