I live around the area, it’s not people who can’t afford rents it’s people abusing substances that are living on these streets. I grew up off of 635 and abrams, the homelessness has never been this bad. The crime rate in this area is crazy.

@Sany Tubdoor You’re welcome, I am a democrat. The difference between you and I is that I actually want these people to get help and not for my city just to “look pretty”. Not everything has to do with which political party you claim, people’s mentality is a very powerful thing.

@Sany Tubdoor I wouldn’t totally blame democrats this time. Dallas has a shitload of services for the homeless. Many refuse to take the help. We need more mental health facilities for these people. That’s where they belong. The state doesn’t fund mental health services like they need to. So, it’s both sides fault in some way.

you absolutely cannot allow people to live in tents. it just sets an insane precedent for skid row type of environments that become unwalkable and dystopian. if you think that that is compassionate by letting them do so, its not. youre enabling the destruction of exponential lives and literally every other hardworking person or child going to school/etc. i lived in seattle for a bit and that scenario is absolutely unacceptable.

I think that this is wonderful that the residents are trying to clean up and get things done and cleaned because the city and police don't have this stuff taking care of... You are correct about having to except the help to get off the streets... My husband family and I have been on the streets with no where to go and working with the Drc office to get help to get into a place and I have been working with them over a year or more and still no help yet and I have been on the housing list for over 5 years and still no help with housing. You have to want the help to get off the streets and I do want help for my family and my self

With the millions/billions of dollars that have been spent in cities across America on homelessness over the last decade or more, technically it should have been totally cleaned up. What I suspect is happening, is much of the money is going to people running these agencies and overhead, like 90+% of the money, and not much of a damn thing actually being done to house the homeless. And we know this happens, especially in America, where we have everything from corporations to charities skimming and milking funds, it's CORRUPT! 🟪

The remedy to unsightly homeless camps is homeless camps that are designated, and serviced by the city of Dallas. We need 14 of them one for each council member district. They need to have a community center where the homeless can receive services and counseling to be pointed in the direction of mental illness treatment and drug rehab a community center that has kitchen facilities, full bathroom facilities, laundry facilities, Internet. These camps should have sanitation services every week just like I get in the back of my house. Once these city designated camps are set up then it will be easier to move camps from underneath bridges and highway right of ways.

They need to build a humongous homeless facility that people need to be rounded up if they are living on the streets . I know it's Orwellian .. dont hurt them just place them in a nice homeless shelter and that'll create new jobs to maintain such a facility.. then should have an opportunity to be able to leave the shelter when they are ready for society. Damn I know that sounds so horrible cause then it sounds like they are being held against their will but what can they do on the streets but cause everyone trouble? I don't know I don't want people who don't deserve to be in there to be in there. Maybe have ways for family members to come and get their loved ones ... This sounds awful. Anybody with better idea?

Tbh the homeless camps never went away. They just now aren’t as hidden. Southern Dallas have had homeless camps in the woods for yearssss. The city should do more to clean it up, but many of these ppl refuse help and panhandling makes it easy to live like this. People continue to give them money.

"helping" the homeless should require them get treatment. i would say 80-90% have some type of addiction which right now they have to seek help for voluntarily, yet a drugged out person would never consent to getting off drugs. its simply unacceptable to enable this, whichever way you look at it. that guy is right, most people wont accept the magnitude of help that would actually get them off the street and it sadly makes an unsafe environment for themselves and everyone who encounters them.

The #1 reason for homelessness is lack of family support. The private sector can be quicker and more proactive than the government. Again, look at Community First Village as an effective solution. They are not providing mere housing but a community and purposeful living which most homeless people have given up on. They are stuck in hopelessness! Let's give a hand up!
