This film appears to be well kneaded romantic drama style of English theatres with Indian theme marvelously performed by Nargis and Raj Kapoor... Same here - I was brought up in the UK since I was 2 so I can't speak Hindi [and I don't listen to Hindi music] but I came across this 5 years ago - after searching it as I remembered seeing a clip of it on an old UK Channel 4 documentary about Bollywood in the late 1980s - [back then I did not hear the full song or remember any of it except 'O Chanda']. So I searched for Nargis and O Chanda and found it and it was one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard although I can only understand a few words [when no subtitles are given]. I just came back to it today after 5 years.

I am also also Sri Lankan but my grandmother on father's side was born in India. they are Tamil but also have Portuguese Indian heritage as well as Tamil heritage. but I also tend to watch Hindi movies and my girlfriend who is Mauritian, her mum traces her roots to Hindi speakers from Bihar and Mumbai. I also have a bit of ancestry from the Mumbai area from ancestors who spoke the Korlai Portuguese creole language and I think they probably would understand Hindi as well.
