Not just Taiwan. It's well-known that there was a lot of corruption in the building of the Three Gorges Dam, and also some very questionable design choices. Even the CCP admits to cracks and shifting, though they insist that they're within tolerances. Three Gorges Dam is in trouble as we speak. It's failing in its flood control function and has opened all floodgates in an attempt to preserve the structure of the dam itself, despite flooding in downstream Wuhan.

That amount would be enough to supply electricity to THE WHOLE WORLD for almost 42 days. People who point out their puns are like comedians who explain their jokes: they both think you're too stupid to get it. The only good thing about the phrase "pun intended" is that it saves you time when you want to say "hello, I'm going to be at the bag convention this weekend, please be sure to stop by and say 'hi.' I'll be at the douche exhibit." Here's the deal: when you point out your puns, you're making a value judgement on me, the reader. You're saying: Hey reader, you see that play on words I just made? Yeah, well that wasn't an accident. In fact, I thought it was so clever that I didn't think your simple mind would be able to comprehend the brilliance of my play on words, and I wanted to make sure you know that I'm not only smart enough to use homonyms, but that I'm smart enough to point them out.

You mentioned the Three Gorges Dam in my country, you should have also mentioned its sister the Itaipu Dam between Brazil and Paraguay. Depending on which metric you use (peak power vs average power), you get a different answer which is the world's biggest dam. Three Gorges has higher installed capacity, but Itaipu still has a slight lead in annual output, presumably because water volume on that river is less seasonal.

ITAIPU dam, in Paraguay-Brazil, is the most productive one. It holds the world record in electricity production, so far: 2.6 Billion MWh, since 1984. That massive amount of electric power would be enough to supply the whole world’s electricity demand (in September 2020) for at least 42 days straight! The amount of concrete that was used to build the Hoover dam would not be able to reach to new york. Thats a myth.
@dlwatib4 жыл бұрын
Of course it would. It just has to be made the right thickness and width. The video claims the dam was built with 3.3 million cubic meters of concrete and that the distance from San Francisco to New York City is 4000 km. Taking those as givens and converting the 4000 km to 4 million meters, we can readily see that we can build a ribbon of concrete 4 million meters long, 0.1 meters thick and 8.25 meters wide (4,000,000 * 0.1 * 8.25 = 3,300,000). If you're claiming that the dam doesn't have that much concrete, or the distance from SF to NYC is longer, simply adjust the numbers to your preferred measurements.
