Irreecha is an annual thanksgiving festival celebrated by the Oromo people of Ethiopia. It marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the harvest season. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks to Waaqa (God) for the blessings of nature, including rain, fertility, and prosperity. The celebration takes place at sacred sites, often near water bodies, where people gather to offer prayers, sing, and perform rituals. Irreecha is not only a cultural and religious event but also holds significant social and political importance for the Oromo people.

Last I was in Ethiopia was 2022 and I am so surprised as to how quickly the country is transforming these days! The parks, as you say have become such wonderful public spaces. So immaculate, clean and aesthetically pleasing. Nice seeing you make this video with my very good friends Its Noella, and Feti Vlogs 2! Keep it up!

The Irreecha Memorial commemorates those who were killed during the 2016 Irreecha festival. The protest, part of the broader Oromo protests, turned violent when security forces opened fire on the crowd. Estimates suggest that around 700 people lost their lives. This event marked a significant turning point, leading to the eventual downfall of the government at the time.

I happened to be there that day. People got hurt and died; no need however to exagerate the numbers. One hurt is one too much. It was a sad day.

@@Mrursi Read what I said carefully, it's not my number. I mentioned estimates. Some reports say over 700, while others suggest up to 300. If you were there & counted the casualties, why not share the exact figure with us & the world, instead of claiming the numbers are exaggerated?

What happened in 2016? It was on live TV? On irrecha day? Literally 8 years and 10 days ago. 550 children mothers and fathers where killed, bullets fired? And you don't know it? Or you didn't have electricity back then?

What are your rambling about brother Fitsum? They’re not Ethiopian, how would they know? The world doesn’t revolve around our country.

Debrezeyt is like Addis Ababa that different ethnic background live there even if it is in oromia region. Actually they call it oromia like 25 years ago but still many people do not accept it. I also do not accept it. It shouldn't have called oromia because it Amhara's Land. 💪💚💛♥️
