A walking tour in Muhajreen District (Shamseya Street) in Damascus on Wednesday, June 14, 2023..
Muhajreen is a neighborhood in the central part of Damascus, on the slopes of Mount Qasioun.
The neighborhood has been called Muhajireen (The name means 'the immigrants') since the beginning of the twentieth century when a group of immigrants came to it, from Cretans, Turks, Circassians and others who came to it with migrations for various reasons. The first immigrants were from the Balkans who arrived in 1890, then from Rumeli in 1896 and from Crete in 1900. The neighborhood has many Turkish families in Syria after the departure of the Turkish rule in 1919, so everyone who lived in the region at that time was an immigrant who shared his neighbours' feelings of nostalgia for the motherland
