It is quite a development to be able to use blowers instead of compressors. Blowers loose efficiency and create heat if they have too much back pressure.

I’m no engineer, but I was under the impression that if a ship wasn’t supported my water evenly around the hull, that it would cause extra stress on the vessel and it could compromise the vessel?

That’s a different case, in this situation the ship is supported by a fluid evenly around the hull, the difference is fluid on the lower section is air, which has basically the same pressure, but different viscosity.
