In as much as I really love this song, we have to recognise this song is rooted in conceptual incarceration. That is to say we cannot think of ourselves outside of eurasian imperialist powers and cities. Thus Ghana must be like California, Johannesburg like Miami, Somalia like new york. Why can't we be more of ourselves and less of them. There is a lot of conceptual tools in our history if we look deep enough. We can strive to be like the height of our civilization, Kmt or its parent civilizations. Even there was Mossi, Songhai, Wagadu, Kuba Kingdoms all worthy of emulation. Take us to the real promised land. There is a lot of work to be done in our minds ...

And even worse, Nas' verse is completely void of any connections to the land or vision of prosperity. It ends with his enjoying luxury while catastrophes occur.

this whole album just goes!!!!! I just cannot imagine if them never get together and gift us with this album!!!! Man i dont even know my favourite song from this album but something about this song just gives me crazy nostalgia! Maybe its because ROn muschett used to play this every morning and my dad used to have the radio on in the house while we were getting ready to go to school and him and my mom going to work and every morning Ron muschett would play this song and do his top five or something! Its crazy the things you remember when you get older!
