It's nice to see some genuine love in a Star Wars project
@joaquinarcilla12778 сағат бұрын
I saw someone talk about how a lot of work goes into every star wars show, from the puppets, to the practical sets, etc. etc. And what really hurts the current Star Wars is the writing. I don't really want to get into the writing parts of Star Wars but I really wish there was a lot more love on the special effects done at Lucsfilm and ILM which is still pushing the boundaries of what movie making can be like they have been since 1977. Its funny how much fans complain about CGI nowadays because back in the prequel era the use of CGI, greenscreen, and digital sets was Lucas pushing the boundary of Movie making. And despite everything about writing, direction, and how people feel about Star Wars shows, I think we can all agree that the special effects have yet to truly fail and every person involved should be super proud of their creations.

I think they're all made with genuine love...they just don't always turn out well 🙃

And it pays off. The only thing around this I have gone a bit "hmmm" on was in the first episode and the droids around the kids going to school. They were clearly CG and maybe added late because they looked a little off with lighting etc. They could have done with another pass.

Honestly this show has really opened my eyes on a lot of the issues people were talking about with the previous entry, and why this has been such a great show in everyones eyes (aside from the woke stuff I just don’t give a shit about that) I’m glad THIS is something we’re all fighting for, something that’s not trying to explain more lore to the Jedi and sith blah blah, just a bunch of kids on a pirate adventure. I have long dreamed for a pirate centric show in Star Wars, now they just need to do a droid one, and more alien-centric shows like Ahsoka!

Such a refreshing show. My wife and I really love it. Great to see unique stories being told in a different parts of the Star Wars lore.

Sm33 is such a unique droid. Though I think I’m a little scarred by the end of this week’s episode. That almost got real dark real quick.

One of the greatest things about digital effects is how relatively easy it is to digitally erase things...like the guy puppeteering SM-33. It allows the filmmakers to shoot things with practical effects in ways that would have been impossible in the 80s.

I'm guessing they are going to use one of the other coordinates to go to another planet which they will then again find the supervisors tower on. Then, hopefully, that tower will have intact coordiantes

@saraholson594613 сағат бұрын
Practical effects just seem to lend projects more heart. It feels like on some level the audience can tell. And obviously when actors have real props and sets to interact with that gets a much different performance than acting against a tennis ball.

I think most people know that there's a lot more work that goes into using "Old school" SFX than using modern CG But what I don't think most people realize, is that the work isn't even the hardest part. The hardest part is that most professionals working in SFX don't know how to do "Old School" stuff Not only is it more work, but it's also a skill that very few people in the industry have.

You can’t beat practical or stop motion effects. They never change. What you see now is what you will always see. CGI evolves. So older stuff looks sometimes bad. When I saw Jurassic park at the cinema for the first time I thought “thats it”. And it would never get better. Now that film hasn’t really aged well when something like the dark crystal I can watch today and it looks exactly how it always did. And nothing is taken away from it.

There’s a KZbin series about how companies lie and say they don’t use CGI so I’m skeptical about this claim.
@zynius20 сағат бұрын
Obviously there's a lot of CGI in the show. Every single scene has some form of CGI element in it, be it set extensions, puppet cleanup, erasing of wires and puppeteers, set pieces. Even your most basic NBC cop-drama uses some form of CGI in virtually every single scene.
