The Entire Story of Kingdom Hearts Union Cross [KHUx] Explained

The story began in 2013 with Kingdom Hearts Chi. The game then evolved to Unchained Chi, and finally Union Cross, with Back Cover providing additional context from a different perspective. And now that story is told.

I race through a lot of the early moments that I have explained many times before in order to focus more on the ending and the parts I have not covered as thoroughly so far, and that first summary video will get you up to speed with a lot of the smaller details, while this video is definitely more about the bigger picture and the future of the series.

This video helped challenge something that I took for granted, which was that it seemed like for Master Ava's task of bringing the Dandelions into a new world to help keep light alive, the execution of that was pretty weak- Instead of a shiny new world, they were trapped in simply a dream-data duplicate. There was no real light, only digital copies of worlds. Then, when they escaped, only one Dandelion actually helped build the new world, Ephemer (building Scala ad Caelum), while the other Dandelions were trapped in the data world or sent elsewhere in time and space. But I had forgot something. The Master of Masters was DISHONEST about what his true goals were. He never wanted to rebuild a new world with the Union Leaders, or not primarily. He was goading the remaining Darknesses into the data world as a trap and self-destructing it. What was the sacrifice of a few hundred more children when thousands had already killd each other in battles?- And they wouldn't even lose their hearts, just be put to sleep. I thought it odd that this grand plan for a new world of light after the end would be presumedly based in data technology housed in a tower that would go through the end of the world, and find itself ruined, and suspended upside down submerged in water. But that was the point. The data world was MEANT to collapse, taking the Darkness with it. Hoo... boy... yikes...

Based the knowledge that the dandelions that went to sleep. That would explain the spirits and dream eaters that exist in DDD. My headcannon is that the stronger a heart is, the stronger the charithy's new form with the keyblade wielder would become. It makes sense that Sora and Riku can tame and collect spirits because they housed hearts.

So the intital reactions for the Dream Eaters are definitely a "what the fuck" reaction, but I think that there's something bitter sweet about it. Sora in future ends up going to the Sleeping Realm and encountering the Dream Eaters, but remember something about Sora. Sora is a person who can make freinds with just about anyone. He's touched the hearts of countless people and even non people! This means Sora has unknowningly made freinds with hundreds of unfortunate kids who probably needed it most. And I think something somberingly beautiful about that.

I'm so sad I wasn't able to beat KHUX before it was shut down. I was literally at the end of the Wreck-It Ralph world before my keyblade setups just could not keep up with the enemy power levels anymore. Thank you for this video. Thank you so much for this video. Hoping SquEnix makes a Cross/Chi remake/compilation for consoles or something because these games are the foundation for the plot of Kingdom Hearts moving forward. So many questions left unanswered, I just hope the payoff is somewhat satisfying haha Now there's one question that I don't think has been answered concretely yet, but who's the hooded figure in the KHUX 2nd anniversary artwork? It'd make sense for it to be Strelitzia since it features all the Union Leaders and Ven, but why isn't she in a white robe? That and the flowers make me believe it's her. But maybe it's someone else? Idk Another thing is that you mentioned the Foretellers died in the Keyblade War but then they appear in the Epilogue for KH3. So they didn't die? Did they simply dissapear to the world of fiction and came back to be reunited with Luxu? Or are those data backups? Again, you did a great job explaining everything so easily. But there's some stuff that I still just don't understand... 😅

So remember when this series was about a kid just trying to find his friends and go home? Anyone ever picture we'd get to the point where one of the major players in this whole drama was a mysterious cloaked man who constantly acted like a goofball, but is actual an ancient being with gift of prophecy? A being who's grand plan included him deliberately setting up a situation where not only his own beloved students, but also a small countries worth of innocent children, would eventually turn on each other in open bloody warfare, which would result in all but a select few dying horribly, and not only was this seemingly only phase 1 of this whole endeavor, he's technically not the bad guy here?

There is a theory that might make sense of why Brain both is a successor to Luxu and the No Name while also traveling to the future to Scala ad Caelum, and that's that those scenes aren't shown in order, and Brain taking the No Name and the Black Box to the Keyblade Graveyard happens after that. Perhaps Luxu offered to release Brain's Heart, sending him into the future, in exchange for retrieving a vessel and apprentice for him and that when he woke up that he would inherit the No Name and Black Box as well, hiding it in the Keyblade Graveyard where Xigbar would eventually find it after KH3. I don't know what's more likely, using Data Clones and telling stories out of order are both things Nomura likes to do, so I think it's important to keep all possibilities in mind until disproven in this series.

Wow.. it all makes sense now. I tried getting into the union cross game but just couldn’t find the enthusiasm to commit to it. Now that I understand the storyline it puts a lot of the stories of previous games in the right perspective. This whole time I never questioned KH1 story around Maleficent or any of the things going on in that game really. When I was young I just thought good vs evil right? With some sacrifice in the end. I always thought of KH from Sora’s perspective in the game but now I under the past of KH and how Sora now ties in. I’m mind blown at how amazing and emotional this story is.. it’s always had a special place in my heart like a feeling you know? Now it’s even bigger and I cannot wait for KH4 to come out!!!! Especially since Stelitzia was revealed to be in the game and meets Sora?!?! Omg! Now I understand why everyone was soo hype about that opening scene in the trailer 😅😭

I would assume the 4 Darknesses trapped inside the Daybreak Town corridor are, at some point, freed & will enter the bodies of Hermod, Bragi, Urd & Vor, resulting in Xehanort needing to kill his friends & starting his dark journey, trying to control the Darkness from that ever happening again. And once they leave their 4 bodies, we can only assume, they'll roam around freely OR be trapped inside Scala ad Caelum, to then be accidentally freed by Mickey post Melody of Memory, finding new bodies in the Guardians of Light

Yeah that's essentially the 'gentle prodding' I briefly mention at the end by the Master of Masters that starts Xehanort down his path, it's not lost on me that the Master time travels to a point that coincides with the four graves and the beginning of Xehanorts journey. I want to expand on each of the possibilities for the unknowns in their own video so as not to make this video irrelevant in a few months time, but i left a couple of quick thoughts as a little teaser

Was thinking that as well. If the player really is in Xehanort, maybe Xehanort is needed in order to free the Darknesses. Guessing that Xehanort will be prompted to do that and then the Darknesses will possess 4 of the friends. Also, think it would be nice if it was Baldr plus 3 of the 4 chooseable characters who get possessed. That way, you get to pick just one to save. So the guilt can be real.

I beat both KH and KH2, but didn't get to play the others. Thank you ever so kindly for making this video. The story is incredibly familiar to me. I am watching this for the first time, yet seem to already know the tale. Looks like exactly what is going on in this reality. The allegories are in the algorithm, like the threads in the giant fabric of time. But THREADS have a new meaning in this technologically advanced world we live in. I am profoundly intuitive and am able to see through the veil. "It is only with the HEART that one can see rightly. What is essential is invsible to the eye." I've been noticing these video game stories playing out in real life, the same way the Biblical stories play out. It's not all literal and obvious though, one must consider the word play involved to understand the metaphorical lessons that are being taught everyday right before our very eyes. Once you can see it, life gets fun and funny because when you are familiar with the stories, it freaks out people when you already know what's going to happen next. They think you're magic, but really you just paid attention and understood the assignment. Thank you again, for your beautifully constructed video and explanatory narrative, I appreciate what you have done for the collective.

Lmao the bosses ended up getting to level 5,500... That’s crazy. When I last played it, the events of the “data Daybreak Town” were newly released, that or the part about Maleficent time traveling was starting... The fact that we aka our character from KHUX is Xehanort in the rest of the KH games really kinda tugs my heart strings and make me wish for our character to one day either be rescued by time traveling either to prevent them from becoming evil Xehanort or preventing them from dying in the first place preferable the not dying part

okay this is kind of unrelated but you mentioned the x-blade in the video, and that made me wonder: do you have any theories about what the heck is up with that? we got the story of the ancient keyblade war without a single mention of the thing that we had been told previously was at the center of it, so what gives? something to do with the "keyblade war" of the Master's time maybe?

Very insightful and easy-to-understand video ! As a KH fan who didn't find the motivation to play the "stupid mobile game", this is the best resource online atm I think :) Just one (silly?) question in my mind : If the original (Aced & co) Foretellers perished during the keyblade wars (except maybe Ava), how can they appears in front of Luxu/Xigbar at the end of KH3? Data-backups ? The old-fashioned "their Heartless/nobody died so they re-appeared" ?

Maybe I missed something but was ephemer the only survivor who rebuilt the world? Or is the implication that the seed luxu helped, or there were other people alive in the ruined realm of light. I’m trying to imagine how people actually exist if ephemer was the lone survivor. Also I guess the apprentice of luxu would’ve somehow found his way to scala for that keyblade to continue getting passed down?

At 56:57, what if the 13th roaming darkness IS that one right there in the queen of hearts and ends up in Xehanort, and not just raoming around the worlds and putting darkness in the hearts of many? We see YX has silver eyes in dark road, but golden as an adult. Xehanort has not split his heart at all at the time of BBS, so the case of the Org members having golden eyes because of the whole part xehanort thing can't be used on Xehanort himself (plus Xehanort can't be... part Xehanort lol) however his heart could contain a darkness that makes his eyes go golden at a certain point, thus sending him down his Dark Road. When he meets the MoM, he still has silver eyes, but MoM says he'll ditch the coat soon. Could this be because shortly thereafter he will go back to wonderland, force the darkness out of the queen of hearts and into himself, thus not needing protection in the dark corridor? I don't know. Something that's been rattling iside my brain for a while now.
