This is probably the most honest and accurate perspective told from an entrepreneurial stand point most people think the money will just appear without investing in yourself, hints the term "Go for broke" .......

Hooking up with Jay-Z an Biggs an creating the brain child for a record label, clothing line, an movie deal. Getting artists, doing contract negotiations, art gallery's, part owning a club at one time an creating the first hip hop tour. Dame may have his flaws (we all do) but I got to give him credit where credit due. Yea Puff, Suge, Baby, Master P, Russell Simmons, may have paved the way, but I think Dame is on that Mount Rushmore of CEO's as well!!

I think people misunderstand Dame when he said his money is in the streets. All he means is that if his net worth is 5 millions, he might only have one million in liquid cash to use. The rest of the 4 millions is invested into business. In essence, he's actually never broke. As long as he runs his businesses properly, there will never be a point where he would totally lose all that 4 millions. On the other hand, most of the times, that 4 million turns into 10 millions. I personally would always have a good amount of actual cash, but that just depends on your mentality. Dame has been successful before, so he has a different mind set.

I think the most important thing about investing is the will to take risks. Every investment is not gonna work just like every relationship wont. The will to take risks is the will to move forward, even with mistakes becuase if you look hard enough, there's a lesson that will prepare you for the next step. Most people look at mistakes as a loss. Learn, prepare and take risks.

For the person who asked the question.. take whatever % you can afford.. also find cuts in spending elsewhere. Do you eat out, high cable bill etc. Dame started in the drug game so it a little different but the same principles. (please correct me if I'm wrong) You have to find a product or service that you can get with the capital you have available to you. Flip it! Rinse and repeat! Don't spend the money, you MUST reup! Put it back in your business. buy low sell high. Hustle hard ..

I think it takes a great amount of skill to do what Dame does. He has been an entrepreneur all his life, so he definitely has very advanced skills on how to create and sustain businesses. The way he works is like business on speed. Those of us who are not in that mental league won't survive so it's better to do it the way Kenyatta did. Save, save, save and put it into a project that is meaningful to you... then as you grow, and as your skills get more complex, you'll find yourself doing even more complex deals/projects/businesses, etc.

Kenyatta, I always look forward to these videos man! My wife and I have a cake business in Toronto...that's her on the right in the picture. I'm a black man that knows the struggle, I did stand up comedy for 8 years and it's sad that every black comic runs to the only established (white) club in Toronto because there are no black people paving the way in Toronto. Everyone just looks out for themselves. I started monetizing my wife's cake videos and from those profits and cake profits we are saving for a shop. I love the conversation these cats are having about business, but Dame is giving the wrong strategy as far as money. Any person who has ever started a business (no matter the size) will tell you that you need to use leverage (other people's money) when you begin. This money can come from small financial institutions, private lenders, notes, equities, secondary mortgages, etc. Rich folks almost never use their own money for projects ..... any person who does is greatly putting their financial stability at risk .... not a smart idea ....
@orderofgrandpuba
@orderofgrandpuba 9 жыл бұрын
So if you buy a $5 T-Shirt from the T-Shirt guy in the mall, Go Home Put a Smiley Face on it & Sell it for $20. Take the $20 & Buy 4 T's, Make $80, & So On So Forth, Rinse & Repeat, & Keep Flipping & Re-Upping, That's the "WRONG STRATEGY"? How is a $5 investment putting anyone's "FINANCIAL STABILITY AT RISK"? I think Dame's strategy is basically "BOOTSTRAPPING" from a street perspective. Nobody is going to give you a loan, capital, or leverage without a case study of growth, cash flow, & demand for your product. Nobody is going to give you "leverage" off the strength of an "idea". You have to have a PROVEN business model before anyone invests in your business to ensure they get a ROI
@cigarcatfromwayback...lets380
@cigarcatfromwayback...lets380 9 жыл бұрын
WRONG! #1 your basic T-shirt strategy is leaving out a lot of costs for a true ROI. Also Dame's "bootstrapping" perspective comes from money he made selling drugs. Not hating ... love the brotha ..... but is that a risk YOU'RE willing to take? Of course not ... ALSO look at your comments ... "Nobody is going to give you leverage off the strength of an idea" .... WRONG .... if you go to your local real estate investors club meetings, entrepreneurial meetings, private lender meetings you can get money .... I see it done all the time ... you just have to get creative with terms to make it lucrative for them ... but the KEY is that you're not using your own money. If this concept makes you nervous, that means you didn't have an idea you believe in in the first place .... CREATIVE FINANCING is the key .... Then you said you have to have a PROVEN business model ... WRONG (again) .... many small entrepreneurs who accomplished amazing things just had a vision combined with desire and "want to" and used their persuasive selling skills to convince their potential investor(s) that they were worth investing in. Now ... you're correct if you're talking about going to a BANK and doing this via "conventional means" (which I wouldn't recommend) then you're going to have to show a "proven" model ... but the problem is that you may have to wait months upon months to get financing ... by that time, the opportunity may be gone ... If I were YOU, I'd listen to the words that are coming out of your mouth ... it seems that you're talking YOURSELF out of an idea or deal that YOU don't believe can happen unless you believe in the "conventional wisdom" that comes from people who've don't know a damn thing about business and schools which are being taught by people who've never ATTEMPTED to become an entrepreneur or run a business in their life! Like one of my mentors once told me ... it's a shame when someone tries to stop you from achieving your dreams ... but it's a DAMN SHAME when you're stopping yourself .....
@orderofgrandpuba
@orderofgrandpuba 9 жыл бұрын
+WHO DARES That's Real Estate, of course if you're talking about buying properties it's not wise to use your own money. Plus hell yeah investors will loan you money for a real estate project because if you renege they can always reposes the property, so they lose NOTHING. But no investor in their right mind would invest in an "IDEA" for an asset that has no value, cash flow, or cannot be collateralized if the arrangement goes south. Got to have some "skin in the game". Listen I GET IT Acquiring GOOD debt/leverage helps you grow an empire faster without being exposed. Same goes for finance, investing, FOREX etc. BUT again HIP HOP MOTIVATION is speaking to the everyday entrepreneur.
@orderofgrandpuba
@orderofgrandpuba 9 жыл бұрын
+WHO DARES If you want to make movies, clothes, merch, apps or any new age shit without a track record there isn't a bank in the world who'll fund the project off the strength of a "BUSINESS PLAN". Hell Nate Parker funded The Birth of a Nation because he knew nobody else would. He also knew once he finished the project the studios would buy the rights & he'll recoup his investment that's a perfect example of using your own bread & using corporate to scale your project. That's all Dame is saying plus that was Biggs dope money not Jay or Dames. Biggs was the real dope-man he just partnered with Dame because of his business acumen & Jay because he was the star.

Prince Ali. Brah .... what they accomplished isn't normal. MOST people who attempt to do what they did using their own money is going to lose it the VAST MAJORITY OF THE TIME! It's not a viable business option for the masses .... even the richest people on this planet don't use their own money to fund projects. That's the first thing they teach you if you're learning from a TRUE entrepreneur ... never use your own money. The creative financing strategies that I've learned from folks who've made lots of money can be used to fund ANY business and can be learned and utilized with study and practice. The type of business doesn't matter ... you just want to get the money without using your own ... The only thing I can tell you is to read up on it (learning from people who've made tons of money doing it) and actually get around local entrepreneurs by finding out where their meeting groups are (ie. www.meetup.com). I'm telling you ... making a habit of constantly using your own money to start business is a road to ruin .... As a side-note .... again, I like Dame Dash ... I love a lot of the stuff he's saying about being your own boss, but he primarily uses his own money because no one wants to do business with him. The brotha has burned a lot of bridges because he runs his mouth ....

Am sorry I don't agree with dame on this one ..if anyone is working a 9 to 5 and want to open up there own business and wants to save to do that.. I think he should have given a better answer ..like a old Jamaica told me don't live beyond what you make ..if you're working a job no matter what your doing you should be able to save 25% of your check after bills ..cut out some of the wasteful spending ..
