Damon watches Elena’s breath very well. Something he's been doing since the first season, though a little bit more obvious in scenes like the motel room. Her breath has been her truth. When you have a character that’s terrified of loving someone, and equally terrified of admitting she loves someone, her body language says everything she's afraid to say out loud. "The beauty of silence is the noise of no words." The beauty of Elena's silence is the sound of her breath, and it's everywhere in the third season. It's not just the "You" that gets Damon. It's the breath. Once he gets that breath, his eyes never stop looking at her dress. Probably because he’s looking forward to ripping it off.

Yes he does! Bless his heart....he didn't think he deserved it. Abandoned by his mother, hated by his father, abused by Katherine & a brother who forced him to turn. Left Stefan because he was a ripper & reckless and was going to get them both killed. So he moved on ALONE. THEN, found out Katherine was alive all along & knew where he was the whole time. When he was bringing Will the ID's of his victums in New York, those ID's were for Katherine.....so Damon couldn't find her. USED & ABUSED him heart & soul. So when Elena chose him you can only imagine how he felt....my heart skips a beat every single time she says YOU!

@@Mssoctober1 as for the so much hurt line, i think that he truly meant all of the pain he’s suffered through since he turned into a vampire but also since he met elena. he loved elena pretty early on and seeing her with his brother would be agonizing, but he truly was feeling all of his emotions after rose’s death. he never shut off his humanity through all of that and fed on the girl because he was hurting but didn’t want to turn it off. damon never truly wanted to be a vampire, he always missed being human and never wanted to turn to begin with. he wanted to be human and be with elena.

She fell for Damon in 3x1. In 3x2, he forced her to admit those feelings because he knows Elena likes to deny things. That's why he often says she's in denial. "Because when I drag my brother from the edge and deliver him back to you, I want you to remember the things you felt while he was gone." Thanks to that scene in 3x2, she'd remember how she felt WHILE she's with Stefan in 3x18. That's what pushes their argument "Look, Elena, I understand that you're concerned about my brother's life..." That's also the moment Stefan realized she's in love with Damon, which he mentions in 4x6. "You know, before, when I was the, uh... The Ripper... I understood why you cared for him." That's why they cut scene the way they did in 3x18. Because Elena herself wanted to rescue Damon from Rebekah... just like she wanted him to leave that mountain in 3x2. At the end of 3x18, Elena was too scared to admit her feelings to Stefan, so he forced her to go to Denver with Damon. Then when she and Stefan went to that dance together, she decided she was gonna tell him about Denver. Stefan himself told her he didn't want to know. He didn't want to know because he wasn't ready to let her go. He literally chose to walk blind. The point of their soundtrack in 4x6. That song might as well be playing while they dance. Delena's sex scene in 4x7 basically picks up from their motel scene in 3x19. Because she always wanted Damon. When Stefan kissed her in 3x22, she didn't want him to. That kiss and Delena's kiss in 3x10 push to their scenes in 4x6. That's why Stefan kisses her in her room, then ends up on her porch... while Damon kisses her on her porch, then ends up in her room. The point of soundtrack when Damon kissed her in 3x10. She was holding onto Damon... and letting Stefan go. This show strings scenes like that. "I didn't want to see you get hurt, ok? I was... I was worried about you." All anyone has to do is watch 3x2 and 3x18. "Yeah, that was the plan before Damon's life was hanging in the balance." Elena is fighting for Damon for the same reason in both episodes. Because Damon forced her to own up to her feelings. The point of this line.... "Yeah, and if the roles were reversed, he would stop everything to save you." The roles were reversed, and Elena herself gave up for the sake of taking Damon off that mountain. Because she's in love with him. She loved him so much she'd leave Stefan behind. That's why Stefan is basically having to beg her to help him kill Finn. As far as she's concerned, there's no world without Damon.

"Not just to Stefan, Damon. To Tyler. To Caroline." All anyone has to do is follow dialogues because Elena is a lot like Elijah, and she lies to herself... a lot. She can be with Stefan forever IF she wants to lol. She wants Damon, she's just not ready to say it.

Which she didnt know at the time that she did. But it seemed like she was choosing Stefan based off of a superficial reason, on which one of them she met first, not based on her loving Stefan more.

Color has personality. Character placement says a lot too. The blue dress she wore in 1x19 to signify Damon's heaven. Standing at the top of a staircase so that he's looking up at her.
