Damon Albarn is musically in another class, Britpop was a moment before he really then diversified and then spread his wings. He is a genius and many of his pieces are timeless

I love that damon is a fantastic pianist and a good guitar player, but all throughout blur, he just sang. He's the mastermind behind that band, and Graham was the perfect partner in crime. What a fucking great band. As an American... that Brit pop band changed my life. Literally. (and supergrass, Pulp, etc etc... that was a magical time).

As all true good bands, Blur always had the ability to craft truely timeless tunes. But yes, they were so far ahead. Especially their best album "13", which sounds lightyears ahead of 1999! Honestly, it holds up so fucking well. One of the best albums of all time.

Brit Pop? Always hated that 1996 media invented pigeon hole. I know Blur pre dated that fad by 7 or so years. Definitely leaped forward from the Leisure indy pop indy rock after Damon went back to music college. And spawned the Park life era. (they nearly blew it with TGE but shh let's not mention that) an amazing band fronted by someone who is a true musical heavyweight. So diverse so prolific. Put Damon on a par with Beck in that sense. Definitely puts Noel in a headlock and sleeps him out.

So just stop comparing them then. This comparison has never been fair to any of these two bands. Unfair to Blur, because they´ve always been way more creative, diverse in sound and genre and they will remain relevant for generations to come. Unfair to Oasis, because how could they, with their limited capacities as musicians, even stand this contest? And all their bigmouthing won´t change anything.

I'll probably take some flack for sharing my honest opinion, but? To me Blurs music is like Jeckyl & Hyde. They have several brilliant songs, (this is definitely one of them) that leave me in awe of their brilliance. But then they also have quite a few tracks that are unlistenable and leave me wondering how such rubbish could come from such a talented song writer/band, and how could they ever believe that it was worthy of recording and releasing? I'm just glad that when I was introduced to Blur/Albarn, I bought "Modern Life is Rubbish" & "Park Life" and I listened to them in their entirety. So I discovered the Brilliant Tracks, along with the less than Brilliant, Unlistenable Tracks, to put it nicely, because I could conceive of someone without patience and a proper introduction to both tyoes, coming to a negative conclusion and never getting to experience Blur/Albarns Genius, and that would be quite unfortunate! It's my personal *opinion*, based upon what is an extremely subjective criteria....musical tastes...that Blur has 11 Tracks that I include upon my list of all-time favorite Tracks. That is a huge number, and they (Blur) are 1 of only 13 Artists/Bands that have a double digit [>9], number of Tracks upon this list. To me, it seems like Blurs body of work can be placed in 1 of only 2 types/grades of songs. Type 1 are the Amazingly Brilliant Tracks, and Type 2 are the antithesis of the Type 1 Tracks, the nearly unlistenable, complete assault on my hearing type of absolute rubbish sounding tracks. 2 extremes at both ends of the proverbial spectrum of sound, with nothing that I've yet heard, in between the two.
