I sprained glens ankle playing basketball at worlds gym in Burlingame back in the early 90’s. He was going left, jumped and landed on my foot. Later on I told him I knew him from doing the 30 minute condensed giants game. He asked me if I liked it. I told him it is a good idea, but since people already know the score, that it probably wouldn’t work long term. He appreciated the feedback. I remember when this happened. I played it back and it sounded to me like he fumbled the word, he didn't actually say it. And then what followed was a big overreaction by the higher ups, which blew the whole thing out of proportion and made it worse. And the result was that we, the fans, got screwed, as usual, out of a sportscaster who was like family. This has been a rough week. Thank you, Damon, for having Glen on today! It made my day. We lost Glen and got an announcer who doesn’t even know the rules. What a tragedy. It would have been special to have Dallas and Glen calling the games for the final season and especially the final game in Oakland. Thank you for this interview Damon and for allowing Glen to finally tell his side of the story. When Glen took over the television announcing after Hank Greenwald retired, I thought we were getting the b team Kuiper, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Glen became a great announcer and even though we were lucky to have him for the years that we did, it should have been so many more. I truly hope he gets another announcing job or as he said, another sports related job in the very near future. Glen is better off without the A’s under the Fisher ownership, but the A’s broadcasts are surely not better off without Glen Kuiper.

I watched the game live on MLB tv in Australia and last season MLB TV didn't have any pre-game, although it did this year. When the apology came on I was like, was there something I missed? I searched online and everyone else was confused as well. I do believe an apology was in order but I think it could have been handled better from NBCSCA. These situations hurt my heart because I don't know if there is an appropriate punishment so to speak, where does one draw the line between punitive and restorative justice? One thing I'll say is: given the way NBCSCA got rid of Brodie, I think the sacking may have been some virtue signalling from Mr Kaval.

As a black woman I heard it and was horrified. And it hurt. But I’ve also listened to Glenn long enough to pause and know that it wasn’t intentional. It’s a word that cuts deep and is painful to hear. But knowing who Glenn has been over so many decades I also knew that this was a situation of being tongue tied and the wrong thing came out. And both can be true. Having a special needs child has allowed me to understand that not everything is pronounced with malicious intent. And this is a situation where I feel comfortable with having grace for someone who made a mistake.

@@damonbruceplus But he says repeatedly, "I made a mistake." But you did not press him on what the mistake was. Was it that he mixed up his words, or was it that he verbalized his inner thoughts and feelings? He made the kind of "mistake" that simply cannot be tolerated -- much like Thom Brennaman's was. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube on that, though Brennaman has tried. Kuiper may be a good guy, but you just can't do what he did. He didn't clear the air or have full disclosure here.

We fans know that it was an unintentional slip . . we all have done it . .it's just unfortunate that it happened to Glen . We all know him as a class act and a good guy. It's a shame that his feet were held to the fire and they let him go.

has anyone ever used the n word on the live TV and kept their job? this would have been a fireable offense before the term canceled culture was even a thing.

Just my two cents. I compare this whole thing to what happened with Jack Morris calling a game with Shohei Ohtani. Morris essentially was suspended and was allowed to come back for the remainder of that season as well as the next. As someone of Asian ancestry, yes, I was offended and thought he deserved disciplinary action. When I compare the two, on one hand, it was mocking someone's ethnicity on purpose vs saying the worst slur on accident. Another thing is that accident or not, people expect you to do your job correctly and not make mistakes of this magnitude. Another thing is that Kuiper was trying to describe his visit the Negro Leagues Museum. He was in the process of learning more about Black history and baseball history. I would say chances are that Kuiper isn't racist and doesn’t look down on Black people. At the same time I can't be as sure that Morris doesn't look down on Asian people. All that said, in my opinion, I think a suspension would've sufficed, and Kuiper should've been able to continue in his job.

@@dcfog81 Hold on he did not say the 'worst' slur by accident his intent was to say negro but it came out as nigro that's just the inflection of his voice that he lost what he had worked for cause of crazy PCers lying in wait is just flat wrong

Have him replace Jon or Duane when they retire. Or replace Bob Fitzgerald

I thought for sure Glen Kuiper would be a part of the Giants broadcast team when Duane retired. Not so sure now, even though I think Marty Lurie has Glen Kuiper on his Giants pregame show on KNBR on weekends. According to Rich Lieberman, apparently Duane Kuiper is trying to get Glen Kuiper back in baseball calling games. We'll see.
