I watched the game live on MLB tv in Australia and last season MLB TV didn't have any pre-game, although it did this year. When the apology came on I was like, was there something I missed? I searched online and everyone else was confused as well. I do believe an apology was in order but I think it could have been handled better from NBCSCA. These situations hurt my heart because I don't know if there is an appropriate punishment so to speak, where does one draw the line between punitive and restorative justice? One thing I'll say is: given the way NBCSCA got rid of Brodie, I think the sacking may have been some virtue signalling from Mr Kaval.

Just my two cents. I compare this whole thing to what happened with Jack Morris calling a game with Shohei Ohtani. Morris essentially was suspended and was allowed to come back for the remainder of that season as well as the next. As someone of Asian ancestry, yes, I was offended and thought he deserved disciplinary action. When I compare the two, on one hand, it was mocking someone's ethnicity on purpose vs saying the worst slur on accident. Another thing is that accident or not, people expect you to do your job correctly and not make mistakes of this magnitude. Another thing is that Kuiper was trying to describe his visit the Negro Leagues Museum. He was in the process of learning more about Black history and baseball history. I would say chances are that Kuiper isn't racist and doesn’t look down on Black people. At the same time I can't be as sure that Morris doesn't look down on Asian people. All that said, in my opinion, I think a suspension would've sufficed, and Kuiper should've been able to continue in his job.
