This is not a read, DD. I'm glad these trips are teaching you new things and I know you're teaching a lot of people through your robust language courses. That said, some of the stuff you're learning on these trips (i.e-the swastika's original meaning in Eastern religion or some of the New Age stuff you discuss) is the sort of basic knowledge one learns in high school or undergrad philosophy, religion, political science, or psychology courses. My real point is to underscore the importance of staying in school and graduating. There are a lot of people on social media who extoll not going to or finishing college. My position remains one where autodidactic learning takes discipline. There's also the risk of misreading or misinterpreting a text. I never could've gotten through Kant, Husserl, Heidegger, Deleuze, Cortazar's Hopscotch or Nabokov's Pale Fire on my own without my professor (wtf is this poem? Butterflies and mountain-fountain... ahh okay). Guided instruction can eliminate the knowledge gaps and technical deficiencies that can occur through incomplete or insufficient learning (which, in turn, is part of what makes your language courses valuable).

@@got2bjosh+1 to everything you said Josh. To initial thought, I’m like “ok this man is European for sure.” Due to the nature of education you’re speaking of.. then, upon seeing your bio I see you’re NYC born and raised. I’m assuming NY educational system… which is extremely different than any other school system outside of any major city in the USA. For me? The textbook I used for earth science in the 7th grade, at a bilingual school in Dominican Republic, was the same textbook I was using in 9th grade in a small white town in Connecticut, USA. my parents bought a house, and so midway thru sophomore year of high school I transferred… to an inner city school in the same state. To my surprise, I noticed 11th graders using the same textbook I used in the 7th grade!! That’s when I took all AP & college credit courses. But let’s be honest, even in college, depending on what your majoring in, you’ll only be exposed to 1-2 of the philosophers and texts you have mentioned. International business and marketing grad here. The best education I received was at that private bilingual school in DR, and my semesters in Italy, Morocco, China, and a summer at the embassy of Paraguay and Cuba. God bless your educational path that exposed you to all of that. Unfortunately, that isn’t the reality for 70%++ of Americans in the public school system.

In Latvia we have an UGUNSKRUSTS symbol which is basikaliii swastika and 15 upgraded variations of it lol. U can see it all over the national folk clothes, at song and dance fest as well as everywhere during summer solstice celebration, it also represents the sun and the protection and alllll. I might be mistaken but I think it stems from the pagan traditions...
