I used to apply beard oil to a dry beard in the beginning because i didn't know what i was doing and also was most likely using a low quality beard oil but then i watched some dan c videos and started applying to a damp beard it has made a huge difference also switching to high quality beard oils like beard octane. Well it all depends, What type of beard hairs you have? Not all people can straighten up their beard. What type of climate you are living? I personally use oil and water spray on my beard when there was s huge humidity and my beard becomes rough. So I put Coconut oil 3 table spoon Olive oil 2 Table Spoon Peppermint essential oil 25 drops Rosemary essential oil 15 drops 300 ml water spray mix together and you can see the results by yourself You can easily brush your beard Your skin and beard feel relax & calm There is no mandatory theory that do not mix oil and water together for your beard. Spray in your washroom so that you may not face any mess. Once again Dan C appreciate for making the video.

Keep a spray bottle in the bathroom that puts out a nice mist just for this. Same basic principle as woman putting lotion on after a shower to lock in moisture. Before using the water putting oil on a dry beard just made it feel like an oily dry beard and I was absolutely using too much oil trying to soften it up. Moisture makes everything better. I ever run my comb under water and run it through about every time I wash my hands.

Putting oil on a damp beard is probably the single best piece of beard advice there is. I could never figure out why my beard would itch more after I out oil into it dry than before, was having to oil it multiple times a day with no joy. I saw your video and problem solving. I will always be greatful to you as I probably would have shaved my beard off otherwise. On another note, I would love to get your thoughts on the Beard Foam product from Reuzel. Whether it should be used with oil or on its own or in a dry/damp beard. Seems a very unique product

Another great video, Dan. I've noticed that if my beard is too dry before applying oil, it is nearly uncontrollable. Too wet, I can work with. One of the ways I make sure the water content in my beard is ok after a shower is to use a Chicago Pet Comb to 'squeegee' the dampness to the correct level.

Your right just got out of bath, towel dried beard, put a quarter of oil on, Rub in well, combed through though It didn’t look like much as it was wet and oily, waited a while then used the blow dryer on cold only, I often use the fan in my room for drying also, so dried more put my beard in front of the fan, brushed it out and I was very impressed on how it looks now, soft smooth silky, and every hair is in line, no stray hairs sticking out on the side, One thing I did notice is after all that you can’t smell the oil on the face very well but the results you get is worth it.

A damp beard is a must, especially when using a thicker oil like Artius Man. You will really see the difference if you dampen you beard before or if you do not dampen it enough before you do. If someone doesn't damp the beard before applying oil, the beard isn't getting enough moisture to comb through. The oil will not cover the hair completely, and if you try to comb through a dry beard, this can cause damage. A spray bottle or just rinsing the face a little works great before applying oil! Great video Dan!

Putting product in a damp beard works great for me, especially when using beard butter. It doesn't grab the hairs as much if they're damp, it goes on more smoothly and distributes more evenly. I have to assume the same is happening with the oil, even if the effects aren't as immediately evident.

@@Minister_ronbrown I'm African-American and have a very coarse curly beard, I'd recommend not using any product that have wax or are used to style your beard. I apply jamaican black castor oil to an almost sopping wet beard like shower wet and pat dry with a towel just so I'm not dropping on my chest, I massage a good amount of oil into my beard and face them brush the oil in then I pick/comb out my beard against the direction of growth. I noticed a lot of washes strip my beard dry but found cetaphil gentle skin cleanser face wash to work well. I wash my beard every 5-6 days with it and use a stripping wash every 2 weeks other than that I just wash with water.
