Damp Sam explains what was causing the damp issue at this property in South Kirby as a lot of damp issues are not just rising damp.

surely with the outside ground level being higher the problem is due to no air circulating under the floors, we were qouted £9k for damp proofing and our problem was the floor and wall couldnt breath, once the gound level was corrected and under floor vents installed to allow air flow our problem was sorted for a cost of less than £3k including new floor joist and floor boards and skirting, no tanking required.

Great videos pal , and it’s good to know you’re quite local , I’ve purchased an older property , found the rising damp issues on the internal walls and removed all the plaster etc down to bare brick , we are not far off from injecting and painting the bare walls with the dry zone materials ( as per your video using dry grip and insta stick on the boards ). What can I do about the concrete floors ? Clean them and paint them ? , if so what’s the best product to seal from any problems, also in some rooms there’s the old parquet flooring stuck down with bitchumin can I leave as is ( cleaned up and re varnished) or even carpet over to preserve for a later time Thanks

Sounds a good project, apply Drybase black to the concrete it’s a liquid DPM, You can leave the parquet as the tar bitumen is a DPM

Hi I've got damp in the under stairs cub on the party wall?...I'm sure we injected the wall when my dad and I did a full renovation in 87. Dad was a bricklayer but had many years in the construction industry so knows / know how to do a good job. I noticed the skim Finnish has blown off the sand cement render we put on...do you think this is an issue with lack of ventilation of has the chemicals Brocken down and allowed damp to come through..? Thanks for any help.
@dampsam

I would look for a cold spot, if the floor is timber or it’s near an air vent cold draught may be coming in and blowing the finish, also look for rain water hitting the wall outside some how which too will create a cold spot. If the correct measurements were used in the render it won’t break down but it can cold thermal bridge. There are more types of dampness than just rising.

Great video Sam, I've a question please.If bitumen paint is on the bottom of an exterior wall and it's in very good condition but painted from just below ground level to one brick above damp course, then would this cause damp through bridging?After rain or damp conditions the damp course looks like it's bleeding damp slightly even though it feels dry and the tile grout on the floor looks darker.Outside ground level is 2 whole bricks lower than the damp course. Any advice would be very much appreciated. P.s .the rest of the porch is treated with stormdry and is single skin brick.

Lowering ground levels then re routing pipes and drains do you think people are made of money, what land do you live in. Everyone has a right to affordable damp systems so they can live in dry properties. How much was lime plastering and pointing the last time you checked?

Hi Sam - Thanks for the video. I have a mould issue in a bedroom in a property (Flat) that is on a raised ground floor with a disused car park underneath which is open to the elements. I have aIso seen moisture on the laminated flooring. I am not an expert but my suspicion is it may be the exposed concrete slab on the underside in the car park that is causing the cold bridging - Would you have an opinion on this. A Surveyor said the room had a high moisture content and blamed the tenant's lifestyle. The room is definitely colder than other rooms and the Sun never shines on the that side of the building. I would appreciate your opinion.
@dampsam
@dampsam Жыл бұрын
Hi Harley, it sounds like a combination of things that is causing the issues and it’s probably worse in winter. The main things to look at are adequate ventilation, insulation and some education for the tenant. There is a lot of things that could be done but it may mean spending money and some disruption.

Hi Simon, I’m going to have a go at doing Dryzone on my firebreast wall. Is the procedure , remove everything a metre high, paint on their stuff to pull salts out, then inject, then put plasterboard on? Then ready for plastering. I’ve looked at your videos about bridging so will be careful. Just lock down means nobody wants the little jobs… Cheers Marie..

You have to be careful with a chimney breast, these areas have sulphate salt contamination which may need a different treatment. Always get a competent surveyor to diagnose your problem to make sure your using the correct system of repair.

We;ve lived in our victorian terraced home for more than 20 years ...no issues with damp...until a few year ago.. had to remove the current paper (never been a problem before) but this time some of the plaster came away..the guy who came said it didnt need fully replastering as wasnt that bad..we left him to crack on and now few years later a damp/black patch has appeared on the area he repaired. We took paper off, skim off and noticed he had used bonding/browning to fill quite a big hole?? much bigger than the hole originally there.. could this be the sole cause of the damp spot as rest of the wall is fine ie could it be the wrong type of plaster for job, too thick, not left long enough to dry out before wallpapering?? whats the best way to fix please?? any help would be much apprecitated thanks in advance.

Been watching your videos for a while and I do home improvements mainly but would like to get into damp proofing as a stand alone trade is there anywhere you could recommend for training or how to go about getting in to it? Thanks for your time in advance.
@dampsam
@dampsam 5 жыл бұрын
The main body for training in our industry is the Property Care Association (PCA) which do a whole host of courses. i would recommend the damp technicians course to start and take it from there. If you go onto their website all the information is at hand and you can sign up to the weekly news letter that always tells about up coming courses and dates. the association is based in Huntingdon, Cambridge just off the A1. Also all the manufacturers do their own registered user courses so have a look on websites like Safeguard Europe, Sovereign, Delta, Wykomol, Pamties, John Newton and see which you fancy. all the information about what we do is freely available and once you have been on a course or two and see all the systems there would be nothing stopping you. have a great day

How do you stop damp penatrading through a solid wall from outside.
@dampsam
@dampsam 3 жыл бұрын
You have to first be sure it is penetrating damp and not cold thermal bridging with the wall being solid. If it’s penetrating damp it’s usually from a prolonged amount of water for a sustained period of time so stopping this source would be the first action.

@@dampsam if you do it in hot lime inside and out you will allow the wall to dry out. Portland traps water. Modern plastic paint traps water.

How would I fix penetration damp
@dampsam
@dampsam 4 жыл бұрын
muzt fitness first you need to make sure the issue is exactly penetrating damp by consulting a qualified expert who can prove it’s exactly penetrating damp and not something els like condensation and humidity issue at this time of year. Then stop the source of moisture, and then treat affected areas with the right solution. Hope this helps.

You talk about ventilation problems lmao I live in a council house that's had a E.W.I system on external fitted few years and noticed black mold in bedroom appearing on ceiling line and go damp patch on chimney breast in attic,my self have got 18yrs experience in rendering and plastering and I reckon it's a lack of vents in property as the external boards will be holding moisture inside ,off warm air trying to escape but with no vents it can't escape but council reckon that's not the issue 😂🤣😂🤣 prob too much work for them to correct issue
@dampsam
@dampsam 3 жыл бұрын
@@lea-rw5cb yes, the new render systems bring with them their own issues as it’s extra insulation so the correct ventilation is imperative.
