With this, you see the HEART of the series. It cements itself as one of the best and it's not even a one and done deal, there are a lot of moments just like this later on. Dandadan is such a mix bag of genres that it manages to utilize them all so well and make it such a treat.

In the anime, they made an "artistic censored version" for the woman's su1cid3. After they take her daughter, she is actually dancing on the top of a building. When she do this ballerina jump, she is actually jumping off to her death. Thats why all stars around her turn into streched lines, simbolizing the speed of her fall. And when the scene finish we hear a "splat" sound.

I don't believe in ghosts, but as a parent the feeling of desperation at the chase scene is one thing i could be convienced can remain after death. Beautifuly sad episode, great reaction

I'm not sure which I prefer more for their first meeting, the anime or the manga. Here its just so visceral and shows clearly that she is still trapped, even in death she is in her evening gown with her injuries, just to get the scene of her transitioning to a youkai perfectly! Then in the manga, she is already in her Silky attire on the street when Aira tugged her dress, but her hat sitting on her cheek bones from her cause of death; while, showing much better why her memories are fragmented and operating on pure emotion.

I think the anime is a bit better on this regard. It almost showed as if she turned into a yokai FOR Aira. Otherwise she'd be a wandering, death spirit.

The thing about aura is kind basic believe in Asia more prominently eastern part(incl. Japan) that everything has some kind of soul-presence that presented in as aura, and every experience and event that happened to it would be enhanced or even change the nature of those aura. For example aura of warrior is different than a farmer, aura of desk of president have different aura than desk of shop clerk and so on. Edit: oh you could definitely separate the soul and its presence. That is how you got Okarun’s TB mode and ManekiBaba.

On why the woman didn't seek help, she probably got into trouble for "working" on Yakuza's turf without asking for permission and giving them a cut. She is essentially a criminal in the eyes of the police, and couldn't get help from the police. As part of the reason Japan having crime rate so low while having huge criminal organizations, is things between criminals do not count. The police will just assume she sold her child and won't look for her missing children.

Or her pimp didn't get the amount he was expecting from her. Because she dipped into the payment to buy a dress for her kid. Pimp found out, took the money, and the kid as collateral.

Eh, it's never explained in greater detail so we can only speculate on how she got there. Another possibility is that her husband died leaving her indebted with the Yakuza.
