“We laughed until we cried” - much like you, although you cried until you laughed. Most people who have lost love relate to this - lucky you guys never did! This is absolutely a true story, which she revealed after Dan’s untimely death. By then she had divorced her first husband and had remarried. Her eyes were really green, but he made them blue for the rhyme. The song at the end, played by the sax (or clarinet - not sure) is Auld Lang Syne, a traditional song of the season. Wonderful reaction!

To @JKonstage When she came forward after Dan Fogelberg's death, she showed the interviewer one of the old letters or envelopes he would send her to her when they were high school sweethearts. He would address her as Suite: Judy Blue Eyes from the Crosby, Stills and Nash song, but would cross out "blue" and pen "green" above it. She came across as a wonderful person, and one could see why he thought so much of her.

Phoenix album is brilliant. Dan played every instrument and sang all vocal tracks. PSA - Dan passed away from prostate cancer, and was a very vocal advocate of screening (PSA tests) annually (I think for men over 50). It had an impact on me and I did it as part of my annual exam every year. I was diagnosed with an aggressive case right around the start of Covid - 2/26/2020 and I have no doubt the annual PSA is the only reason I am able to type this. Please discover the raw emotion of his "Seeing You Again" and the tragic tale of "Tuscon, Arizona (Gazette) and the music fits the lyrics as well as it did in this song. I also liked the how the tempo slows right down for the ending capped off by Randy Brecker's lovely soprano sax solo. Please do more Dan music - I could suggest a very long list, but start with the two I mentioned above. They weren't top 40 hits like this song was, but they are very strong songs musically and lyrically and his vocal interpretation is also spot on.

"Auld Lang Syne" -- pronounced ald lang zine (rhymes with called dang wine) is Ancient Scottish for "long long ago" or "for old times sake" . Somehow it has become a New Years Eve song associated with the Irish, "Should old acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind Should old acquaintance be forgot And auld lang syne" which basically means nothing we just sing it and hope somebody knows what it means.

A week ago I wrote a long comment to one of your recent videos suggesting a 5-pack marathon. The last song in that list you guys should do a reaction to as it’s also in time for the Holiday Season. It’s “The Man Who Would Be Santa” by Vertical Horizon. They hit the scene in the ‘90s with several hit songs. The song I’m suggesting is from before they “made it”. The live version from their 1997 album “Live Stages” is the better version than the original studio version. Matt Scannell (from the band) who wrote “The Man Who Would Be Santa” had a difficult relationship with his dad and they didn’t see eye to eye at times. While he was at university he wrote this song for his dad, and drove back home, knocked on his parents front door, and when his dad opened the door he started playing the song for him. Get your tissues ready.

Great song that started as a songwriting exercise. He took Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture and slowed it down, and began writing about a true life story of eunning into an old girlfriend in a small convenience store back in Peoria, IL. His song "Leader of the Band" was written for his dad who was the musical director for Woodruff High School in Peoria. His father once let him "direct" the band during a Bradley University basketball game when Dan was 4. That put oerfirming music in Dans soul. The entire song is about his fathers life and his own. He presented it to his father who broke down in tears. He was able to see its release as a single before he passed away. Dan said if there was only one song he could ever write and play it would be "Leader of the Band" because of what it meant to his father. The last verse says "I thank you for the kindness And the times when you got tough And, papa, I don't think I said 'I love you' near enough ".

Serendipty is WONDERFUL! (The lead actress is Kate Beckinsale.) I think it is one of those rare rom-coms that most men enjoy. John Cusack and Jeremy Piven are so good in it. "Auld lang syne" is from the Scots language and translates literally to "old long since." But its general meaning is something like “times gone by,” and it’s those times that we are being urged to remember in the song. In modern English, the words are pronounced "old lang sign," and the song is traditionally sung at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve -- or technically it's actually sung in the first minute of the new year. There are actually 5 or 6 verses, but nowadays only the first verse and the chorus are sung: ------- Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot And the days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear For auld lang syne We'll drink a cup of kindness yet For the sake of auld lang syne

In terms of the music, I saw Dan in concert in Hawaii and he said that the melody of the verse came from him playing around with the melody from the 1812 overture, with just the chord at the end of each line changed (it sounds more melancholy). If you listen closely to the melody, you can hear the 1812 overture (no cannons, though). "Auld Lang Syne" means "old times since", although I like to think of it as "old times' sake". "Same Auld Lang Syne" is a play on words, i.e, "Same Old, Same Old".

I saw Dan Fogelberg in 1980 in a solo acoustic performance at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis. He did say the encounter actually happened, and went on to tell the story of the music at the beginning of the song. He was playing the '1812 Overture' on piano and, if your familiar with it, it's very quick and forceful. He slowed it down and softened it, and there it was... The line that gets me is "As I turned to make my way back home, the snow turned into rain." He said that actually happened as well. I'd put him and Jackson Browne in top 5 of songwriters I've heard.
