Very interesting lesson, thanks for sharing it. Ian was No 1 when I was a junior and he was someone I tried to emulate with my swing, I'm not tall or fast and he showed me that a wider swing can let you complete with the monsters that are 6 foot something. Pleasure to see Woosie doing well and looking after himself. Miss his character on the Tour

9:47 - This is SO interesting because this concept is the EXACT same when it comes to the break shot in pool (billiards). When I was told to feel like I’m keeping the cue tip against the cue ball as long as possible at impact, it changed everything for me immediately- I saw the rack explode with SO much more power… and it felt EFFORTLESS! I don’t know why I never thought to translate this thought to my golf game.. brilliant!!
@walkerpalmer6509
@walkerpalmer6509 Күн бұрын
The difference there is that the path of the cue stick is moving in a straight path, so the feeling of the cue staying on the ball is a reality. In golf the path is not straight through so to achieve that feeling, a golfer would be manipulating the path too much and likely keep the clubface open resulting in weak pushes.

Absolutely brilliant.... Ian was nearing the end of his peak years when I came to golf, but to be able to watch him impart his knowledge is bloody brilliant, it warms the heart.... Thank you for sharing this with us all Dan, it's truly fantastic. So good I've come back to it to pick out the nuggets of knowledge, Woosie had you absolutely creaming that driver, very interesting how he brought your ball flight down, are you going to stick with that powerful looking flight.? A little known fact about The 1991 Masters, as we know Ian Woosnam won it and was worlrd No. 1, but the winner of the low Amateur in the 1991 Masters.... No other than Phil Mickelson.!!

Loved the explanation of staying low. I rented a Villa by Apes Hill, shame I never played there have played since but the more budget friendly Barbados Golf Club. Had to admire Ian’s Driving ability for a small guy and his all round striking ability. He already was a gutsy player but I bet his practice sessions down on the Beach when he resided in Jersey must have influenced his pure ball striking, it definitely helped me when I used to visit Ireland to play

I have the exact problem Dan, I naturally draw the ball and I’m working hard on my takeaway to stay wide as you were here. Lots of good tips here, and I also have a three knuckle strong grip. This obviously causes me to get on the inside too much on my takeaway. I’ll try weaken my grip, play around with this and see how she goes. Cheers mate.

I think he said it for his swing. The arc might still be up or near zero if he feel like he drive more down on it. He struggled with over drawing and hooking it I guess so it applied to straighten out his ball flight. 90% of all golfers probably struggle with a slice and I guess it wont apply to them then.
