I still can't believe that Dan Hartman and I went to the same high school, John Harris HS, Harrisburg, PA. He also went to the same church that I got married in 1968. Dan and his older brother played in a local group called "The Legends." Eventually, Dan left The Legends band and joined the Edgar Winter Group musical band. Dan was such a talented musical genius, and sadly he departed us far to early in his life. Rest in peace.

That’s so cool! When I think back to the 80’s this is one of the first songs that comes to mind that defines the decade. But maybe I’m biased…I was a kid when it was released & was crazy about it immediately. It was in heavy rotation @ my 2 “happy places” - the local skating rink & pool. As much as I loved every element of the song - lyrics, beat, Dan’s vocals - it holds memories of the happiest times of my life. I think most people feel the same way about that decade & hearing this song probably has the same effect as it does on me…immediately puts a smile on my face & in my heart. 🌞💛. I didn’t realize or had forgotten he wrote another song the DJ’s played heavily @ the skating rink & we kids would go wild, especially because the video screen was lowered when it was played so the music video would show simultaneously….James Brown’s “Living In America” from the Rocky movie. 🇺🇸 I happened to be reading a write up about “I Can Dream..” a year or two ago when I learned Dan had passed away. It honestly knocked the wind out of me, I had no idea. Another extremely gifted artist gone way too soon. So very, very sad.
