A week before Dan posted his coming out video, one of my best friends got pulled out of her last year of school because her parents found out she was gay. I've only seen her once since then and it hurts. I was feeling really really down about everything, but Dan's video helped so much. Also, I really relate to the feeling like there's so much of you that people don't know. I'm trans, but there's literally two or three people irl that know that. It's weird. Lmao sorry for this random rant. Keep up the awesome dnp content, we love u

it's really comforting that dan knows that the email maybe wasn't the best way to do it, but he knows that it's what he could do at that moment. My mom's asked me overtly multiple times and i literally just can't get the words out and I have this voice in my head saying it's because I'm immature and inconsiderate. dan made me feel better about that.

Yeah, I came out by sending a google doc to the group chat explaining my gender and sexuality while at a friend's house, as my dad was on vacation. I can't articulate my thoughts orally to save my life, and reading off a script would feel really impersonal and shitty. I then proceeded to accidentally leave them on read and forget about their replies. Not my proudest moment But they were chill, so that was good

Yeah doing it in your own way, and on your own terms is really important. Gotta be kind to yourself ❤️ I came out a while ago.. around 2013, and I was super nervous. Luckily there are so many coming out videos online that make you feel like your not the only one, Dan's as well, and just a lot more info on it now. Luckily my parents are totally cool with it, tho my mum is like "who knows maybe you'll marry a guy." which creates doubt but they're generally accepting. I like the idea of being somewhere else, in a safe environment, and just texting it to someone or in a Google doc! Just get it out there, but still know you're being supported by friends or whomever 👍

coming out to your family as a person with social anxiety seems such a daunting task, even when i know that they would be supportive. it's not even me saying that i'm gay - i'm bi, so it should theoretically be easy, but it's finding the right time and having to come out to my family on separate occasions bc i don't see my dad (especially my dad bc he travels a lot and currently lives in edinburgh) or my grandparents everyday, so i'm probably going to either pull a dan, or come out if i ever get a girlfriend and have to introduce her to them sksk.

Is it possible to do it on a phone call? Idk if it would be better than just pull a dan (although I mean you do you, just like he did :D) Yeah I can imagine that being hard when you want to do it once and tell everyone but everyone isn't there :/

Yesh... that look. I am straight and I am a big supporter of gay couples. No awkwardess either, unless they try and hit on me, then I would be flattered but like, sorry, no. Anyway. I am a supporter I find gay couples cute even, but when a person once told me that he thinks he is bi, it is so hard to stay neutral looking. I mean it comes as a surprise and I don't mean in a bad way, but when you show surprise then of course the person who told you that will be like "oh no, she doesn't like it, what if she doesn't accept me. Now she hates me!". I mean... I just hate the fact that people being gay is such a big deal that people actually feel afraid and feel the need to come out at some point, and that the people who are straight, first reaction is surprised. People are who they are and like Dan said, their sexuality is something they can't change and they shouldn't change it or try to do it. I just wish that it could be a completely normal thing in everyones eyes! There has to be a lot of gay people out there! Not all of them are "out", no one has counted them, which again would be stupid. They are not animals. Maybe gay is actually more normal. Maybe straight people are actually a smaller population, in that case gay would absolutely be normal. Well... in my case the person who told me that he thinks he is bi, I had just met him on that day, we had maybe talked for an hour, and sexuality is made such a big deal that I am so glad he doesn't seem to think it one. I am glad. He must have thought that I am a good person and in that case whoop! Or maybe even he doesn't think anything of it and that's why he so freely could talk to a stranger. Maybe I leave a good impression, that I would not think badly of them just because of their sexuality. Same with different skin tones. I don't care, what colour you are! Why is it such a big deal people!? We are all human, no matter the colour, sexuality, race...

What I disagree with Dan about is the necessity of coming out. You don't owe your life to anyone. And if you feel like it's unsefe for you to come out and feel the need to pretend to be someone else, do that. You're not bad representation of lgbt nor you're a bad person. It's better if you lie and be alive/not hurt, than come out and fear for your well being. If you need any support there are plenty of resources online and people to come out to. It doesn't matter what stage of your lgbt journey you're on, I support you.

I mean, it is possible to live with someone for many years, both straight, and never have significant others. At least it is in America; I am guessing the same in the U.K.. Or he could have actually lied and said he had a girl he was seeing and then "have it break off" after like a month or 2 or told lies about Phil's personal life or said he "couldn't trust anyone because he's a famous KZbinr". Maybe Dan's parents convinced Dan they didn't know. And so many other scenarios. Who knows about the real BTS.
