Maybe Dan Inosanto's personal martial arts journey is his "Personal JKD". The problem is that a lot of people mistake one man's journey as "The Way" when it is really just, "Their Way".

After a person has the foundation or fundamentals of Jun Fan Gung Fu or the basic system and they understand the philosophy and principles of JKD they begin the never ending process of researching, pressure testing and discovering what works for them. Creating their own unique expression of the science, art and philosophy of JKD. Best wishes.

@@markharrell3602I am quite aware you don't understand. JKD is a system not a process. You can certainly apply JKD principles to your process but is an art and system. The fact that people can't understand that is very sad. Bruce Lee himself said it was a system. What was taught at the schools was a system. He wasn't giving philosophy lessons.

Jeet kune do is a system . It's not thai boxing karate savate and call it jkd . It's bjj you all learn same things but everyone develops a different way of using the techniques .

I think Bruce was an innovator, an iconoclast, a radical. He studied different arts to find things he can use. He was critical in his analysis. He was in a constant state of creative destructive. Bruce would have likely reinvented himself from the ground up several times had he lived. Dan is more of a collector, a librarian, a preserver. He respects most arts, isn't very critical, finds merits in most. He likes to catalog arts and appreciates more the cultural significance of most arts.

YOU think Dan is not critical because you don’t know him and have zero Private time with him. Guro Dan can be VERY critical. If all you have is a few seminars, I can see why you would think that.

It's kind of hilarious. About 8-10 years ago Chris Kent kicked me out of his Facebook group because he would not tolerate anyone "disrespecting Dan Inosanto" I didn't, I just took two JKD quotes and asked people to draw a conclusion based on the difference in them. The conclusion would basically have been someting along the lines of what is expressed in this video.

Dan has continued to evolve Jeet Kune Do as Bruce wanted. It could be argued Who had the closest connection to Bruce and therefore knew where Bruce wanted JKD to go. Dan is certainly among the top of Bruce's confidants. Neither of the two talkers here had any direct connection with Bruce Lee.

Chris Kent is an Instructor under Dan Inosanto….He knows Guro Dan very well..Dan Inosanto has always used the principles and training methods and philosophy of JKD to help organize his personal expression of martial arts..that’s why he’s always used the verbiage “concepts”…over original..

It should also be noted is that Dan Inosanto is also a black belt in Kenpo karate and was an instructor under senior grandmaster Ed Parker

I think Inosanto is getting a lot of hate for stuff that is not even his fault. He didn't coin the JKD concepts term. That was his students. He didn't teach Kali & Silat and all that stuff as part of JKD. That was also his students. Just go look at the posters for his upcoming seminars. It says Jun Fan JKD AND Kali AND Silat AND Wing Chun. He knows the difference and he teaches them as separate ''arts''.

It’s Dan Inosanto’s JKD. His can’t be BLs JKD. Nor, Wong’s, Poteet, Glover, etc. If you train with DI you are not training what BL trained 50 years ago. But, if BL was alive I doubt he’d be teaching what he was training 50 years ago either.

I think Dan's journey is his own personal expression of jkd, and that's what jkd was suppose to be. Jkd is not a style, the goal is not to do it the way someone else does it, but to do what works best for you. Accept what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own, that's jkd.

jeet kune do is a Philosophy jun fan gung fu is bruce lees kung fu and jeetkune do how he expressed himself if you read his notes or books he did not want to teach everyone to mimic him because not everyone has the physical attributes he has or skill also weight height reach etc so after awhile of getting a base he wanted people to figure out a martial art system for there personal self he did not want people to be stuck to one way of thought for a system like taekwondo he did not want you to be choi hong hi or be like Muhammad Ali boxing or miyagi goju ryu so on and so forth learn from people but be your own person of martial arts which i love jun fan gung fu theres things i can enjoy from it like the tactics but im not bruce lee be open mined people be like water

Wrong. Jeet Kune Do is an art and a complete system. Jun Fan Gung Fu was the earlier system before it had fully evolved.

Who’s to say Guro Dan’s martial arts journey isn’t JKD when he’s in a constant state of evolution in his martial arts as Sijo Bruce was well until he passed. with all this adding and changing is not even Bruce lee's jeet kune do. many prefer the boxing jab over the jkd vertical punch and vice versa. and the lineage teaching is different from the rest of the others. even the pretenders makes it hard, it leaves everyone saying, what the hell is it ?

JKD is not the art. JKD is the philosophy of creating a combative setting that fits you’re body, lifestyle, and combativeness. Jun Fan is the art of Bruce Lee. The JKD principle changes for all that accept the question and answer to what full fills your individual art. Seek all knowledge and disregards what dined t work for you. It’s a simple question and answer that has many years of evolutionary and growth in you as an individual. Guro Dan is the first to say this. I remember my first seminar with him back in ‘92. He said, “I can give you all a 3 lbs of clay and tell you to make a horse statue. No two will be alike. That is JKD. Add the clay/knowledge, and carve away what is not for you. Keep what is for you. That is JKD.”
