Also, Ohtani is getting $700M because he is expected to pitch at a high level as well as hit. He proved how good he can be when he's just hitting and stealing bases, and the Dodgers capitlized not only with a World Series, but also with a ton of money coming from merchandise, tickets, viewership, etc....worldwide. So you are, in fact, getting 2 players in one. At $350M for the pitcher and $350M for the hitter, you can actually argue that this is the most cost effective deal in Major League history.

"Not a superstar"? 🤣😂. That's an utterly delusional take. So let me get this straight. Y'all just happen to know more than the teams of financial analysts, entire front offices & owners courting Soto? 🤣. These teams are just dying to give away their money? 😂 Damn, if they only had consulted you guys....🤣 Age plays a huge factor in these calculations. As good as Ohtani is, Ohtani also didn't try to get the most money... However, that's the very rare exception, not the norm. Virtually all players try to get the most they can. Ohtani is also 30 whereas Soto turned 26 last week, joining Mickey Mantle, Albert Pujols, & ONLY 4 other players in MLB HISTORY to have over 200 Home runs at this age. That's the company of players he's in. He hasn't even reached his prime. If a team signs Soto for X dollars, I'm sure that team has done their due diligence... Some exception being my fav team, the NY Mets... as for Steve Cohen, the Mets payroll is the equivalent of "hobby money" for you & I.

Here's how to look at salaries in MLB. It's a 10 billion a year in industry. Per CBA the players are guaranteed around 50 percent of revenue from TV, Gate receipts etc. The additional constraint is around 75-80 percent of the players are either on Rookie contract or Arbitration. So that means that free agents are now able to get enormous money because in effect 20 percent of the players are now looking at splitting around 80 percent of the revenue pie. Superstar athletes like Soto are woefully underpaid for 6-7 years. But once they hit free agency as stars, sky's the limit. There's no point begrudging the money.

Man people are really exaggerating how bad soto is defensively . Especially when those same people wanted dominguez up so badly who isnt any better defensively than soto is .

Maybe these contracts were inevitable, maybe they weren’t, but I can tell you the exact moment they happened. When the Texas Rangers outbid themselves to get Alex Rodriguez baseball contracts started getting exponentially stupid. Blame them.

Boy are you RIGHT. He’s no 5 TOOL player. Average fielder at best! Let him GO. For 600 million give me the following 1. Alex Bregman 2. Corbin Burnes 3. Pete Alonzo and I think you can have all three for under $600 million.
@jone6258Сағат бұрын
DP nail on the head, and that's not mentioning his below average defense, and the many holes the Yankees need to fill. 600mil buys the Yanks Burns, Snell, Teoscar Hernande, Pete Alonzo and still have money left over to replace Cortez. kick rocks juan

If he gets you to the world series a few times, that covers the over spending on him
@inqlusion92834 сағат бұрын
Dan P is 100% right. Soto is talented but he’s not Shohei. He won’t put people in the seats. Let the Yanks or Mets have him. For the Dodgers, get Sasaki, re-sign Edman and Teo and you’re set for 2025

Let's rewrite history regarding how giving Mahomes that contract was a bad idea. How many of our gasbags were complaining about it? How many said, "they'll never win again"? It'll ruin the league, right?

Nobody is 'worth' $600M...I get that. But that's where we're at, and Soto is a clutch hitter; he's not just a good hitter--and that's the diff. He can bring the WS tittle etc... But Ohtani level money, and Ohtani is going to bring a lot of money to the team; but there's only Ohtani, and even then, he hasn't proven that kind of clutch performance in the playoffs yet; hitting or pitching. But I'd bet he's got in him, as he has had moments of greatness that went beyond the reg season.
@mirikaku58117 сағат бұрын
Ohtani got the Dodgers past the first round they couldn’t pass for the last two years. Having him in the lineup makes all the opponents nervous and all focus is to stop him, letting the rest of Dodgers play without much pressure! “Moment” of greatness…you must be dumb
@n_snafu7 сағат бұрын
Ohtani's 3 run HR in game 1 of the LDS was pretty clutch. they could've gotten swept without it. Also his game 1 double, then to 3rd on the error, in the WS, that got them to tie, then win was pretty clutch.

Dan is right on this one. I hope the Dodgers don’t do it.
@fernandoposada544059 минут бұрын
Noone is getting him for less than that though . And who replaces him?
@NeilTruick6 сағат бұрын
They're making it sound like _ANY_ of these major league contacts are justified. Ohtani is otherwordly, I get it. $700 million, though? For one player? C'mon...even Judge's $40 million for nine years could be seen as a stretch. The only reason you pay Judge $40 million a year is so he doesn't go to another team. If I'm paying Soto $600 million, I want him for no less than 15 years, but that's unrealistic. I've been a Yankee fan ever since George bought the team. I can't see George paying Soto more than the team captain, especially when Judge had more hits, doubles, homers, RBIs, walks, stolen bases, and total bases, as well as a higher batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and weighted runs created. Pay the man, but don't go crazy...
@KaitoMinatoСағат бұрын
Ohtani deferred almost all of his contract and not to mention his pull that impact Dodgers income, that contract is easily justified.

@gregthegroove5 сағат бұрын
I can see what Dan is saying but his bat isn’t just reallyyyyyyy good. It’s ELITE. Juan Soto can get even better in the next 4 years. We don’t know that. Perhaps Soto puts the work in and becomes a gold glove down the line or gets wayyyyyy better. He’s 26 dude! (Allegedly) OK….hes like 30……..ish 😂 I agree. Soto is worth big time money, but not close to what Shohei is getting. Judge is a captain and Soto should get just as much as Judge got. Judge is starting to also not just be a home run hitter. He’s becoming well rounded and more balanced. I don’t see anything wrong with getting giddy over Juan Soto but there has to be a stop price and I’m not so sure I’d go north of the high 400 M’s. Perhaps just to make it sound good, I’d dip a bit over the 5M’s. 505M maybe if it’s the Dodgers/Yankees/Mets.

Soto only sent 2 teams to the world series....so overrated 🫤
@jaysonj932714 сағат бұрын
His defense and his base running already are poor and those two key items only will decline further with each year. By age 30 he'll likely be a full time DH or he'll be costing runs while jogging around aimlessly in the outfield. All hit guys aren't worth really big contracts. An ace starting pitcher and a lock down defense first catcher who can hit a little bit combined are more than 2x more valuable than Soto projects to be in regular seasons to come and probably 3x to 4x more valuable in future postseasons.

This is one anti-Soto post and comment section. Regardless of all of this anti-Soto-ism, Stearns and Cohen are going after him to bring him to citifield. Stearns is far from being an unintelligent man. Stearns now with Cohen is like the perfect GM and owner combination and relationship. Cohen is ready to spend but he listens to Stearns and is learning from him. Stearns is not going to allow anything to jeopardize the Mets future. So if they're going after Soto and they get him, it's because they know that this will be a part of their plans, not something in the way of their plans. And if Steve can afford it then he can afford it. Cohen is not just going to aimlessly throw money away and Stearns won't let that happen.
