for all those who may say extreme drumming can't be musical and thoughtful and even tasteful...I really enjoyed this, even though not my first choice of genre to listen to, as a fellow drummer I was enthralled by his drumming, it is very layered, complex and fitting for the tune...Outstanding!!...I particularly enjoy the HH splash pattern that takes the song out at the end, a very "jazzy" touch to an extreme style tune.

There's a black and white video of Derek Roddy doing it during the double bass run in Powers That Be from 2006. That was the first time I saw someone do it. It's an awesome idea.
@BlackEmperor10 жыл бұрын
Guys, he is not swapping between hi hat and kick there, he is using his hand to choke the hi-hat to simulate the pedal so he can keep the kicks going. That's what David was referring to. And he's bloody well right, genius move.
@TehJaytius10 жыл бұрын
Black Emperor That's what I was referring to in the old Derek Roddy video. I'm actually surprised more people don't do it. Still a great little technique.

Absolutely brilliant. You might just be my current favorite drummer. In my 33 years alive I've listened to a TON of metal in every genre you can name from all around the world and I've heard maybe 3 guys who can match your skill level.
@Kain_R_Heinlein8 жыл бұрын
Jamie Saint Merat surpasses it and probably Proscriptor McGovern, Spencer Pewitt and Tomas Corn as well.
@NoNationHero8 жыл бұрын
Man, after reaching certain level of skill there is no objective "worse" or "better", it's only a matter of their style and whether you like it more or less. Can't imagine any actual song this dude won't be able to play. Just like the others you listed above. And a hundreds of other descent musicians.
@anewt726908 жыл бұрын
Are they Jamie Saint Merat, George Kollias, and Blake Richardson?
@Kain_R_Heinlein8 жыл бұрын
Андрей Казаков agreed, unfortunately I do feel there is a skill difference and not just stylistic one. Also skill difference will be more noticeable once you start comparing with Jazz, fusion drummers and the like

I listen to this song probably 3-4 times a day on average, visualization the play through of all the instruments each time while driving... to see finally see it (my bad for waiting to look it up) is incredible. Btw this raw version of the backing tracking is interesting!!
