Great song. This live performance is really nice. Thing that bothers me though is that the recording is a full step (I think) higher and sounds almost auto-tuned. You have the same sonic sound with Cassadee Pope's new song too. When she performs it live it's lower. NOT CRITICIZING THE SONG, just the recording method. Both songs are fantastic! Why Nashville? Why?

You're right, and the answer is because it's easier to sing the song a step lower live. Artists (not just country) have been doing this for years -- ever see Bon Jovi perform 'Livin' on a Prayer' live? It's like 10 steps down haha. I sing a bit and I can easily get to all the notes in this vid, but the recording is slightly out of my range.

It is DAMN hard (especially for a man) to sing that high and that loudly ALL the time. This was shot at a radio interview, which probably means it was one of many they were on the road doing. The human voice CANNOT sustain that kind of exercise and anyone who tells you differently is lying. For him to give such a strong performance at what was probably one of many stops along the way is impressive, regardless of what key he did it in.

Shay sang pretty high on that record... you have to imagine how to sing that live without busting a vocal chord or cracking it
