Nah, og series were slowly dieing plot vise. Like problem of hyped gs that started in the second half of New Vestroya, and even worse the problem of repetitive plot that started in the 4th season

You’re probably right, it’s just that Dan had such a love-hate relationship with Spectra and he was so happy when he renounced his evil ways, it seems a bit strange that he refers to him as Spectra. However I see Spectra as a battle personality rather than an alter ego, like Barodius’ Mag Mel which was a permanent change.

It is not too late for another season for the G1 Bakugan series. A good example is Samurai Jack. It appeard in 2001, ended in 2004 and revived in 2017. Another good example is Young Justice who got revived in 2018 thanks to the insistence of the Fans.
