Thanks for posting this. I love the story behind that song. It has been used 100's of times at bars and restaurants at closing time. New meaning to it now.

Aside from the whole meaning thing...his singing is great live! Sounds almost exactly like the studio version.

"Mind-Blown!" for 20 years I just thought this was a song about closing down a bar at the end of a long night of serving drinks... boy!

I got it the first time I heard the song. "This room won't be open 'till your brothers or your sisters come." seems pretty unambiguous.

didn't make connection for years, along with millions of others. Only because Wilson shared the inspiration/origin at our 25th college reunion did I see the light. Brilliant hiding in plain sight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJrdanmqf651aLs

I must be an idiot because I didn't know this until right now. You should've written him so he'd know someone else understood, lol

Never bought it. I read this explanation in the drummer's book and never bought it It was a throwaway song lyrically that became a huge hit. And Im sure he was embarrassed by it because he perceived it as damaging his credibility as a serious songwriter. I personally love the song. The lyrics are all in direct reference to a closing time at a bar. Its the equivalent of the group Slade claiming "Come on feel the Noise" is about child birth. Look, he didn't write his "A Day in the Life". He wrote a pop song that is actually a great piece of Folk Americana. In my book, thats doing great.

Of course you are correct. Just like Arthur Miller's, The Crucible, is about the Salem witch trials. 🙄

just because you "Never bought it" does not mean you are right.

"time for you to go out To the places you will be from Closing time, this room won't be open Till your brothers or your sisters come" These lines are completely out of place for a bar setting though, and they line up too perfectly with the child-birth theme for it to be an afterthought... I always found those lyrics weird, and now that I know what they're in reference to they actually make sense. I'm sure you're just embarassed because it took you so long to get it, and you'd feel stupid knowing there was a hidden message there all this time.

Thanks for playing, guy who probably heckles performers at shows. 🙄
