Bladee sits in a very comfortable position as an independent artist. There’s this hard to achieve level in the industry where you can get publishing/licensing deals while never needing to sign over your entire discography or sign entirely as an artist. The reason its so hard to do this is because you need to prove to majors that you can consistently drop projects that will always do streams, and keep a cult fan base. And because he always continues to prove that, he’ll always retain his creative control. You’ll never see anyone from Drain/SB ever give up creative control and thats whats so special about them. They sign over their projects, but not their careers. One of the smartest ways to move as an independent and all of them have been using the same strategy for ~5 years. Basically, make a project, have your management pass around the project in the industry for you, sign over the licensing, make racks, and best of all RETAIN CREATIVE CONTROL 💯

Very good video, well researched and presented with passion. I'll just give a few minor constructive nitpicks: 1) I would have liked if you gave context to the streaming numbers of the projects you mentioned, for instance when you said "Gluee" performed "great" and racked up over a million stream on every song on Spotify, I don't know if I would necessarily agree with saying it "performed great", when it took damn near a decade for the project to rack up those numbers. When "Gluee" came out literally nobody knew about it, it was super niche. Or when you say that "Working on Dying performed great, and every song racked up over three millions streams", it makes it sound like all of those stream came in relatively quickly after release, maybe in a 3-6 month period, when really it took 6 years. 2) Similar to the first point, you said Red Light "racked up streams" and that 2018 was just more linear rising for Bladee, when it really wasn't. Red Light got a pretty mixed reception, and some very negative reviews, notoriously theneedledrop gave it a 1/10 rating, with a scathing review. After dropping Red Light, Bladee hinted at quitting music, he tweeted a couple months after the release of the album something along the lines of "Boys, it has been a good ride, but this is the end of the road for me". (Some people took this as him hinting he would kill himself lol). 3) He was featured on another Skrillex song, "Ceremony", with Yung Lean 4) Again the number comparisons are kind of disingenuous, Teezo's album came out three months ago and it's already pushing a million streams on most songs, whereas most of Bladee's albums absolutely did not reach those kinds of numbers in the same timeframe, especially the older projects. Bladee has reached that level now though. Bladee is awesome and your video was good, keep it up.

Bro skipped like half of Bladee important drops where is AVP, Rip Bladee, D&G, Plastic Surgery all of his singles+ DG archive? Every single song on D&G cracked over a mill with cinderella at 5 mil. AVP which is Bladee's most underrated and unknown actual released EP project still almost cracks a mil on most songs and 2 mil on some. Plastic surgery pulled in 15 million streams on 3 songs. Most of his singles go hard af and he dropped 12 million streams on Amygdala. Also he went poppy with Charli XCX, He cracked 26 mil on Girls just wanna have fun, Vanilla sky had 9 mil, Apple had 5 mil, Trash star 5 mil, Red velvet 6 mil, Gotham city 6 mil, Into dust 6 mil. Bladee singles are way more impressive since hes not marketed at all. He pulls on average like 2 mil a single and has so many singles over 5 mil. That is totally insane numbers.
