Dana Alumni Recital: Tria Corazón

Tria Corazón is composed of three YSU Dana School of Music alumni: Anna Reitsma, Elliot Kwolek and Emma Donkin. Founded in 2018, Tria Corazón has played for numerous public events, and its aim is to promote new music and little-known works to audiences around the Western PA and Northeast OH region.
Anna Reitsma (flute) is a freelance flutist and teacher in the Greater Pittsburgh Region. A proud Penguin, she graduated in 2018 with her Master’s in Flute Performance from Youngstown State University. She also holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Seton Hill University.
Reitsma is a winner of the 2017 Dana Young Artist Competition and was a featured soloist on the 2018 Dana Symphony Orchestra spring concert on Nielsen’s Flute Concerto. She has performed as principal flute and section leader of the YSU Wind Ensemble and the Dana Symphony Orchestra. With the YSU Wind Ensemble she has performed on studio recordings of pieces such as Transcendent Journey as well as newly commissioned works by YSU professor Dave Morgan. She can also be heard on the Derek Dixie Studio Orchestra recording of America the Beautiful for the 2019 Super Bowl. In addition, she toured Ohio with the YSU Wind Ensemble performing for high schools with a final performance at the OMEA music educator’s conference.
Reitsma is currently studying with Jennifer Steele at Duquesne University for an Artist Diploma in flute performance, and will graduate in May 2021.
Elliot Kwolek (clarinet) is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger, freelance musician, and teacher in Beaver County. His instrumental proficiencies include clarinet, bassoon, oboe, flute and saxophone.
Kwolek graduated in 2020 with his MM in Clarinet performance from Youngstown State University. He graduated in May 2018 with his BM in bassoon performance.
He has performed as section clarinet of the YSU Wind Ensemble and is currently co-principal clarinet of the Dana Symphony Orchestra. Kwolek has also been a part of many recordings with the Wind Ensemble, notably, Aurora Awakes by John Mackey on the E-flat clarinet. He performed first clarinet on the YSU Wind Ensemble's studio recording of Reactions by YSU's composition professor David Morgan. He also performed as principal bassoon of the YSU Wind Ensemble at their 2016 performance at Carnegie Hall.
Kwolek played bassoon on America the Beautiful with the Derek Dixie Studio Orchestra for the 2019 Super Bowl. He has performed bassoon as part of the woodwind faculty quintet at the Renova Music Festival and as a featured soloist with the Mercer Community Band.
Emma Donkin is pianist and composer from Northeast Ohio. She is a 2018 graduate of the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition. She is currently pursuing her MM in composition at the University of Akron and will graduate in May 2021.
A 2021 Alba Music Festival Composition Program Fellow, Donkin’s compositional style ranges from contemporary classical and jazz to ragtime and video game music. While at YSU, she composed music for a variety of ensembles including wind ensemble, chamber percussion, woodwind quintet, orchestra, jazz quintet, big band, flute and piano, and solo artists. Her music has been performed in Youngstown and Akron, Ohio, and in 2018 she was a featured local artist at the 2018 Sundance Film Music Festival in Akron. In 2019, the W.D. Packard Band, based in Warren, Ohio, premiered her wind ensemble piece, Nova.
As an undergraduate piano student at YSU, she performed at the International Piano Festival in Kaufbeuren, Germany. Some of her other performance credits include the International Horn Festival in Muncie, Indiana with Dr. Stacie Mickens, the Lakewood Jazz Festival with the YSU Jazz Ensemble, and the OMEA conference in Columbus with the YSU Wind Ensemble. Donkin has also performed with the YSU Jazz Ensemble, the YSU Wind Ensemble, the Dana Piano Guild, and regularly accompanied YSU students for juries and recitals. She is currently employed full-time as the Worship Arts Director at Portage Community Chapel in Ravenna, Ohio.
