This is the BEST Dana Carvey interview I’ve ever seen! Saw him perform live yrs ago and I couldn’t breathe from all the laughter (comic genius!); but often I’ve felt he was too silly or over the top in his tv interviews. Altho he did a few really good impressions in this interview, this is the first time he talked so much abt himself AS HIMSELF. I really like him as himself, and learned so much abt him (e.g didn’t know he was an actor b4 he became a comedian)!

I saw Dana Carvey perform for a First Data Corporation Christmas celebration years ago and he just cracks me up every single time. He is beyond talented and there is never a dull moment, absolutely none, when Dana is involved. He seems like he possesses a prodigious memory. When he starts riffing an impersonation it always is so polished and hilarious. Comedic genius.

Lotta folks rag on him saying he doesn't do good impersonations.. and that's because he isn't an impersonator. He does 'impressions'... which means he gives you the impression of the character, with a comedy ham up. And he's brilliant at it.

That movie is a classic. It was free on KZbin a month or so ago, so was part II, so I rewatched both of them. Part II lost sight of Garth's genius with technology and didn't have the character development or the same beats and Aerosmith was just "there," unlike Alice Cooper whose band was like, they were all history experts lmao. They did a good job with the first movie.

That is so true, Gary, and it's something a lot of comedians can't do. You have to project yourself into the other guy's head, read where he's going and then, as you say, shut up and stay out of the way. Some comics can't staunch their own egos because they are so used to being the star. Not a criticism, just an observation. This resulted in a terrific interview where they are both having a blast riffing with each other. Sometimes, Dana comes on a bit nervous and manic, a bit Robin Williams, and I feel bad for him. Not this time. Lovely to see him so relaxed with Jimmy. I'd love to see him come back!
