Several yrs ago, drove 3 hours to Atlantic City. Was there with a few friends, planned to gamble a few hours, have fun. I cashed $1k at the roulette table. 4 spins I had 11k. I went to my room, watched tv, told my friends I’m driving home at 6AM with or without. Not the night I planned, but I know myself. If I started drinking and “having fun” that 11 would become 2 or worse.

I remember going to my first real casino. I walked around for 2 hours because I was so overwhelmed and had no idea what I was doing. I finally sat down at a slot machine, put in $100 and spun a few times, hit a free play, and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for the payout. I won $1500 off of it, got hand paid, and immediately left. 2 weeks later, I went back trying to repeat and won another $500 in the first 30 minutes. I went back the next week and only won $100. Week 4, I lost $500. Week 5, lost another $500. Week 6, another $500. I went back for 10 more weeks and still haven't won jack shit. I was one of the dumbasses that fell for the bait 😭

@ikotsus2448 Жыл бұрын
You put that artificial marker at 9k. But if you were "responsible" you would have stopped at 2x500 = 1k. So those 9k would never be realized Being risky is what got you at 9k, and that same trait guarantees that you will lose the money again. Then remembering the 9k makes you think the mistake was not stopping at 9k, so if next time you stop high, you will be a winner. But you cannot identify it on the spot because the high point is only evident after you lose your money. So you are destined to repeat it if you keep gambling.

I just have gambled once at a Casino. It was in Montreal and was 8 years ago. I like poker so I went to play poker. Entry was $100 and I won $60 in about 1 hour. Then I left. So, that’s it. Now where I live there’s a Casino next to where I used to work and I thought of going to play poker just to see. But after making $100k in crypto and then losing it all I can say I have an addiction to gambling. Many friends of mine who were addicted to betting on sports online told me gambling was the worst addiction, even worse than coke. They said “at least coke you feel good and you know what you are getting for your money”. I have never gambled again after that because I am poor now and have a hard time meeting month’s end. Just by imagine suffering hunger again when I was homeless makes me really hold myself up to gambling, because I know I would go back to square one if I do it.

I'm a professional poker player. I've been playing for a living for over 20 years. I started playing at the age of 14 without even finishing the high school. During my career, I have seen enough and heard enough of all sorts of game and life stories. Spending more time in the casino than at home, I can already say from one glance at a person what awaits him on the territory in the casino. Dana, of course, does not understand at all what he is talking about, because it absolutely does not matter when you won and left the casino and let's say you came there again only ten years later. Or you won and went to the toilet and returned to play after 5 minutes - NO difference. The GAME CONTINUES and your chances have not changed in any way, your mathematical expectation is always minus. The best option when you first visit the casino is to lose your $500 very quickly, without any pleasure, without hope. And if, when ordering Whisky-soda from a waitress, she says - Get a fuck out from here the pimple impotent! then at a distance it will be a very positive evening for you!

I said Il watch you play. 100 min hands. He starts betting 2 or 3 hundred a hand he loses 2k in like 15 minutes I said cmon let's go. Well he lost the other 2k and ended up down 3 hundred. In Australia, when I was 18, I once walked in with 50 bucks. By 6am I was up to $700. The problem was my friend and I didn't drive and the first train wasn't until 7:15am. Instead of being smart and waiting in the lounge or at the station there was the classic "one more" and I played 2 spins of $350 each in the higher 3rd of the roulette table. The first one landed on 11 so I went again thinking surely it's gonna end up on the higher side. Sadly the second spin also landed on number 11 completely wiping me out. In a matter of seconds i lost the whole night's earnings. We had fun, needless to say it was a long and cold ride back home. 😂
@stevef4930 Жыл бұрын
His advice is mathematically correct. While your odds are still negative about 48% chance of winning in any given game give or take, by betting big 1 or 2 times, your variance is maximized. So while the odds are negative, it’s less guaranteed to be negative as opposed to if you played 100 times. Another was I think of it is like taking advantage of the noise that is the randomness. With any losing strategy such as in a casino game, your only option is to maximize variance, whereas if you have a winning strategy like counting cards, then is is beneficial to create less variance in order to reduce the possibility of a massive loss.
@stevef4930 Жыл бұрын
And when dealing with a negative expected return, the only guaranteed winning move is not to play, however your second best move is to play exactly one time with your entire amount that you were willing to gamble that night.

Gambling should only be looked at as entertainment. Same as going to the movies, to dinner or a sporting event. If your budget for the night is $100, then thats it. If you go into the casino to "win" then youre setting yourself up for disappointment. I gamble $100 on each UFC event and that's my night of entertainment. If i pay off the ppv costs, im happy - if not then at least it made the fights more fun
@SmokinJoe10985 ай бұрын
Think about it, you have a better chance of winning a coin toss, in fact that's the safest thing to gamble on, than gambling at anything else. And people gamble anyway, it's kinda of suicidal behavior, or rather self-harming that can become suicidal, yet people do it. Some people want to feel how it's like to win, even if it costs their entire life.

I leave when I'm up 4-5 times...doubling is boring, especially in blackjack or craps
@Lemme-sniff-ya3 ай бұрын
I leave because I have a limit on losses I can take on any one night. If I get up significantly and still want to play, I raise the number of losses I can incur that night but not too dramatically so I can stomach leaving on a losing streak. For example if I start at 100 I leave if I lose 35 (or whatever) if I am up 200 I can lose 65 before I stop.

Yep, leaving is almost always the answer, had a friend win almost 3,000$ on slots, started with 100$, I was practically begging him to cash out ‘bro we’ve won let’s just cash out and get drunk tonight PLEASE’ but he insisted he could make it to 10k, I was baffled and saying ‘please just take out 2,500 and keep it with me play the other 500’ but he would not negotiate- as soon as that 3,000 went down to 2,000..I knew it was over, he would have to get back up to 3k. As he drained his money on each spin and/or mini game he got more and more frustrated, at $0 he started getting angry and blaming me cuz ‘I bring him bad luck sitting there and I was distracting him’, he was a drug addict as well and he blew an entire months worth of fix’s just cuz he couldn’t walk away- I ended up giving him $20 and leaving. I get nervous gambling, even on only $10 I can’t handle the suspense, so I completely understand the rush, but the way they will continue to play after they have clearly won and their irrational superstitions truly make it worthy of clinic study
@jime66884 ай бұрын
So, I live relatively close to a casino. About 20 minute drive. I have figured through much trial and error, it’s fairly easy to win between $100 to $800 when you first sit down and use favorite, reliable machines. I’d say ALMOST 80% of the time, it’s like this. It is hard, but you can make a comfortable living if you stick to a plan of booking the win and quitting while ahead. It’s so tempting if something feels hot and maybe experiment with that a little if you’ve got the bankroll, but otherwise, leave to play another day. Come regularly, money adds up.

When I started playing poker at the casino, I remember the times where 5, 6, 7 hours would passed by. Win or lose, I felt I've wasted my time being in there. Then, I remember one time, after couple of hands passed by after I won a pot, the older man, probably Indian, asked me how much I won today ($30-something). Then he said to me "It's better to walk away as a winner than a loser." That got me thinking. Since then, I only play one hour or win a big hand, then walk away. Left with $10, $20, $50 in winnings or losing little. Just play for fun at the table, sip a little alcohol then play $5 at the slots.
