I think one of the devs or voice actors explained that it wasn’t that Dorian’s dad was homophobic, he just wanted Dorian to marry a woman to carry on the bloodline and family name. His dad couldn’t care less who Dorian had sex with or fell in love with so longs as he produced an heir at the end of the day. It was his fathers drive to keep up appearances rather than an outright hatred for homosexuality that drove him to try ‘fix’ Dorian when it became apparent that Dorian wasn’t going to pretend to be who he wasn’t. Or at least that’s how I think it was explained, and that’s how I see it.

Dorian is my favourite DA:I character! He's so complex. Outwardly he seems confident and honest. Though once I romanced him I found he was very fearful and insecure to the very end. This made him more 'human' to me. I remember that Cole once said to him; "You let it keep hurting, because you think hurting is who you are." and I started to analyse Dorian's behaviour more than ever. The two things he tells you in the balcony end scenes are the saddest of them all. He still is trying to push the Inquisitor away out of the fear their love won't last. He covers the truth of his emotions, hides everything because he was taught to. Saying "I hope this won't last." Dorian is actually saying "I hope this won't last so I can stop worrying when it WILL end." Not to mention using the nickname 'Amatus' is just an indirect way to admit his love for the Inquisitor, because he's too scared to outright say it. Something about Dorian spoke to me, I'm so thankful for this game.

Dorian is my favorite character. Not even just to romance, but just as a character. He has an involved and troubled history. His family disapproves of him not wanting to hide who he is and he fights for what he truly believes is right. He's a three dimensional character and his story is one that is very believable. He's one of the most fleshed out characters in the series.

Dorian and Sera seem to be the only people who actually worry about the Inquisitor being possibly lost in the Fade. Dorian's the only one who seems to specifically mention being afraid when the Inquisitor doesn't automatically follow the party out of the Fade at Adamant. Considering Dorian's sensitivity towards his people's past of being the ones who entered the Fade physically, the same thing that happened during the second half of Here Lies the Abyss, it makes more sense that Dorian will have words about it and worries about the Inquisitor, both romanced or befriended.

dorian is very dear character to me. i cant come out to my family because i know that their reaction whould be terrible and its really hard, constantly hiding myself and living in fear that they will find out aboutme some day. when i first heard about dai and dorian specificaly in 2014 it gave my so much hope. like his story hit so close to home annd in the same time it was almost painfull but i needet that so much. like the whole storyline with his father was so scary and painfulll to me as a kid. but the mere fact that someone like me coukd be happy, could couse to live their own life, could abandon tradition, could be open about themselfs it gave me so much hope. i still trying to be brave and live well as me and not as my mothers expectations. and long story short i still cry every time when inqusitor tells dorian thst he is brave loool. i needed it back then and still need this now. sorry for rambling here, have a good day and it will be better some day i guess

I can't understand why Dorian looks so much smaller then the Inquisitor in the sex cut scene he is more muscular in all the others. I would say it's his armor but his shoulder is visible so it can't be that padded.
