Bayle's existence really does show that, no matter the Age, there will be those who wish to claim the title of Elden Lord. And considering the fact that Bayle wasn't the only one to walk away with grevious injuries, it really does show how close he was. Even as injured as both these dragons were, they still possessed the might of Lords.

I think its interesting how Bayle basically uses a dragon communion incantation when he summons the spectral wings. He doesnt sprout wings on his arms where his old wings were but on his back where an “ancient dragon” grows its wings, presumably because he consumed so many ancient dragons, idk maybe im reading too much into it

while i love that interpretation, Ancient Dragon's arent subject to Dragon Communion on death. Every Dragon Communion spell is channelling the power of modern dragons or magma wyrms, where the rewards for killing ancient dragons are either an incantation they use or one of their scales. This DLC also confirmed that the ones responsible for creating Dragon Communion are the Ancient Dragons themselves, out of the hatred for Bayle and his progeny. Ancient Dragons are incapable of doing Dragon Communion as well. I think it would be odd that Bayle could do Dragon Communion with all of these in place, but honestly, theres not much else to explain why he has Ancient Dragon wings Also something to note, Ancient Dragons dont drop Dragon Hearts either Placidusax's Ruin doesn't count as Dragon Communion as it isnt boosted by the Dragon Communion Seal. It looks like it should be, but the lore of Dragon Communion prevent it from being such.

I know because A) we get his heart which Ancient Dragons dont drop B) he can be subject to Dragon Communion which Ancient Dragons are not. 3. Placidusax is an Ancient Dragon, and Bayle is the father to modern dragons. 4. Its more likely that Greyoll would be Bayle's wife/mate than Placidusax's. 5. Ancient Dragons degradation into modern Dragons isnt really explained to my knowledge, other than Bayle was the first. 6. Yes, Bayle's offspring are enemies of Ancient Dragons, but its because the Ancient Dragons created Dragon Communion to out of hatred for Bayle. 7. Age doesn't make an Ancient Dragon. Bayle is ancient and a dragon, but not an Ancient Dragon. Ancient Dragon is a species, not a way of saying that a dragon is old. Horses and Donkeys are similar, but theyre not the same species, like Ancient and modern dragons

Which neither of those two are seen on modern dragons. Also i don’t think that a modern dragon would have ever tried to conquer placudisax. I could imagine that bayle started to conquer placudisax after the dragon god left. Then he lost and was outcasted maybe the dragon god who has become an outer god still had the power to curse bayles offspring to no longer belong to his race for him ignoring the natural order or placudisax as new overlord was able to do so. I can imagine that acting against the hierarchy is a big sin in dragon culture. Then this curse caused bayles offsprings to be a degenerate version of dragons without the blessing of stone scales and their immortality (or the power of time which vaati suspects what they really do) I think the thing with his heart is more like he is the first enemy so still his heart is interesting for the dragon communion despite him being an ancient dragon. It would also make sense here that ancient dragons would hunt down the degenerate offspring of bayle AND bayle So he drops a heart for us because we can use it for dragon cult and other ancient dragons don’t drop it not because they have no heart but because it’s not interesting for us in any sense. That’s probably why bales heart has in its desription „the purest form of comunnion“ whereas greyrolls heart is just a dragonheart. And the second thing is that ancient dragon means that they live longer in fact the biggest difference is that ancient dragons are immortal nit touched by time and modern dragons are mortal without stone scales and we see greyroll powerless through high age whereas bayle is still powerful despite his wounds and probably higher age it’s also important that other creatures can become sort of lesser dragons through bales blood or related heart so maybe greyroll was another completely other race turned into a modern dragon by some ritual by bale and they then procreated further modern dragons through more common coitus Which would maybe be another possible reason why there is a cult to hunt down modern dragons and bayle because it maybe was a forbidden sin to turn other beings into kind of dragons and bayle did this because he was outcast without companion and maybe he wanted to create an army to rival placudisax again

Mortal drakes are related to ancient dragons but they are younger and less powerful Ancient drakes have four wings and stone scales. So Greyroll is likely a offspring of Bayle and another ancient female dragon or the dragon god was female who is the mother of all dragons maybe It’s only true if Bayle is the father of all mortal dragons not all dragons but which isn’t mentioned explicitly

It should also be noted that Igon can be compared to Captain Ahab from Moby Dick. His heart desires to kill Bale much like how Ahab desires to kill the White Whale to the point that it kills him and everyone else, Ahab literally falls to the abyssal depths of the ocean along with the White Whale. Igon dies after the death of Bale the Dread, one last final voyage and hunt to put down the foe that ripped him of his body and fuelled his anger and desire for revenge.

Gotta admit that, fighting both of these dragons whom fought to such extents reminded me of two types of natures. Placi was a perfect storm with heavenly rays, while bayle was indeed a hellish volcano erupting uncontrollably, ceaseless fury as it consumed the lands below. Guess my question is did datum azula originate in the lands of shadow when that era of dragons rule? Who exactly was this god placi worshipped? Why has the tale of betrayals repeated in marika’s reign as its vessel? As a lore hunter, I kept these questions in mind while looking at both main game and dlc as a whole since it’s clear as day that theirs more than one way to become a god in this reality, yet it comes in the greatest of sacrifices. Only one I truly felt for in this whole dlc was saint Trina, forever rooted in a gulch and far from the light of day. Almost convincing me that she made the bloodbornes reality.

There are some interesting lore implications to Bayle's appearance. The game states some where (cant remember where rn) that the Jagged Peak dragons gained lightning powes throigh consuming the hearts of ancient dragons. Bayle also has the ability to summon two massive spectral lightning wings. These appear at forst glance to be some kind of Ancient Dragon Communion, but if you look at Bayle's head and body, you will see that it is riddled with horns. Could it be that Bayle is a Divine Beast, and the wings are him tapping into his connection with the Crucible? Anyway, great video, Bayle was my first big DLC boss so feel some affection for him hahha

Man, Bayle the Dread has become my favorite boss. I love the dragons from FromSoftware (and in general lol), and this dragon, simply because of its design and its boss fight, already tells a lore and conveys a feeling, and I love that so much. They simply delivered so much with him. By the way, great video.

I think bayle and igon are somehow linked. Igon specifically mentions his arms and legs being wracked with pain. The very same foe bayle. Igon dies when bayle dies. I don't know if he was brought into being by bayles agony and hatred. Or if he performed some sort of linking ritual on igon. Hell igon is also the most hate filled character in the dlc, save for maybe the hornsent.

I've been playing the Souls series since inception. I love them so much I got a bonfire tattooed on my arm. With that in mind, fighting Bayle with Igon is my favorite fight in rhe whole series. I absolutely loved it.
