Leonard Cohen on Jools Holland Show
"Dance Me To The End Of Love"
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

My name is Suzanne. I was so privileged to hear Leonard in Berlin on 17th July, 2013, my birthday. I wish I could have heard him again in person. He was amazing. I listen and I sing and I dance to his music. What a wonderful poet to have had in my life.

Je pleure en écoutant Léonard Cohen, je me revois des années en arrière quand mon grand-père m'emmenait dans des cabarets parisiens découvrir la musique slave. Encore un immense merci à mon grand-père et à Léonard Cohen que j'admirais.

One of many Suzanne..I can remember seeing this yrs ago when i lived in London..I came home from work&watched the recording of this show("The late , show"with Jools Holland)and Leonard performed 3 songs if I can recall?(and he hadn't performed"Live"for quite a long time)and the performance from him(and his troop of musicians)was mesmerizing!!..Fond memories of a "Genius"who left behind an indelible footprint.

I'm adding few humble words - and sorry for their imperfection ('m french speaking!- .As Rudolf (your words to Leonard are so so deep ....) , Leonard Cohen was for me a deep and permanent companion. More than 2 months later I'l still in the pain. The beauty of his poems, of his melodies,, of his soul will be there until my end. But still ... my life will never be the same. We love you so,Leonard, as a man, as an artist. And this is comforting to read quite each day all this words of love to you. Incredible. So rare. Love to you leonard, and kind regards to all your friends. Cathy.
@rudolftrost3534
@rudolftrost3534 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for contributing to Leonard's memory, Cathy. Your mastery of the English language is very good, especially as you are French-speaking and thus in another Language group. I myself am a Flemish speaking Belgian, so I am in the Germanic Language group and thus it is easier for me to write in the English language. Both of us, however, seem to be better at it than some of the dribble you get on forums like this... from English speaking people. But back to topic... The Memory of the Great Late Leonard Cohen. That man was there for me all of my life, through love and misery, pain an humour. There was always a Cohen song that seemed to fit the occassion with words of advice and hard-won wisdom. Have you read his words to his muze Marianne Ihlen? So beautiful and sad, and yet, full of hope and joy. Even now, while going through a divorce, his last CD is filled with beautiful lyrics and advice. To me, it seemed the man wrote his song especially for me, but then, I guess everyone who listens to him will have that feeling. While he performed in Antwerp, it was a week after Yasmine, a beloved singer took her own life after a love break-up in a lesbian relationschp. That singer had a year previously recorded a flemish version of some of Leonard's songs and he was keenly aware of that fact. He dedicated the songs "Like a bird on a wire" and "There ain't no cure for love" to her memory and encompassed her entire life in these two songs. It was as if they were written especcially for her... Only the truly great can accomplish such things and Leonard... he was the greatest of all. As you said, my life too will never be the same. I still have his words and wisdoms to guide me, though, and they will be with me in the next phase of my life, my search for a new love.

I saw Leonard Cohen perform in 2013 Cairns, Australia. The first time I thought it worthwhile paying to see a performance in twenty years. There was no way I was going to miss maybe a last chance to see him. Beautiful and nothing but class. A memory that will never fade and one I will take to my grave.

He IS "beautiful and nothing but class" especially today when so many performers are all about themselves. Ever listen to him in interviews? Classic. Wise, a wicked sense of humor that is never hurtful, but usually self-effacing. Knew how to laugh at himself. Love you, Mr. Cohen. Wish I knew you sooner.

I have been exposed to Leonard Cohen's music and poems since the summer of 1977. I do not claim I understand all words in the poems, but I love reading them over and over. The same with the songs lyrics. His deep , expressive, moving, passionate voice along with the eloquent, full, powerful and succinct meaning lyrics have left a deep impact on me. I simply love his voice, I love his songs. Despite his enormous success he managed to remain humble and simple. He may be gone, but he will live for ever. RIP Leonard Cohen.
