In this scene I do agree with Melissa. Every mom wants what’s best for their kids and by other moms basically asking you to stop doing that, that way they can better their kids, it’s probably hard and frustrating after awhile!

I think that at this point in S1 we can already see the mom's different approaches to dance. Melissa's head was already in the world of cutthroat, competitive dance where everyone is out to get you. But the other moms were still treating dance as a team sport they wanted their kids to have fun doing and spend time with their friends. Melissa's mindset was like 10 years ahead where the other moms were in the moment

@@danielaortega7143 Mackenzie wasn’t even suppose to be on the show and Maddie was showcased more I think at this time Melissa was focusing on giving Maddie opportunities. Either way Mackenzie was probably too young to be handling the pressure of 2 solos.

I don't usually agree with Melissa, but I think that she was right this time. I never understood when the moms didn't want their daughters to compete with Maddie or when they said that Maddie competing against them would take away their opportunity to win. Isn't that the whole point of a dance competition? Would they ask some other competition team to pull the solos of one of their dancers just so they could have a better chance of winning? I don't think this makes sense. I think it's horrible that Abby sabotages the other girls' dances and that the other girls don't have as many opportunities to have solos of special parts as Maddie does, but I think that just competing against Maddie is ok, just as if it was anyone else from another team.

This is really sick. Talk to Abby if you have a problem with the way she's allocating solos etc. It's just underhanded and unfair to ask a mother to have one of her daughter's solos pulled. These women are really something else.

It’s not abnormal for a child to have more then one solo! If you are able to handle it and can preform well in your group numbers then there’s no issues with having two solos! Any other studio ever has at least one kid doing more then one solo

melissa and her husband pay extra for every single one of those tap privates. why wouldn’t maddie have a solo in tap, to show the progression from the privates, which has absolutely nothing to do with the other mothers, their children, OR if its “showcasing Maddie’s talent,” or whatever other ludacris excuses they were making. she gets this solo particularly only bc the privates are paid for. had she not had the private, there would be no need for the progression solos…. idk how they could possibly see it any other way than for what it is. i feel so bad for the anxiety they always caused maddie. now wonder she has zero recollection of dance moms. between constantly hearing the jealousy from the mothers, abby convincing her all the girls and mothers are jealous of her, the pressure to be perfect from abby, and all the basic regular stress dance already comes with. my god

At the time though they thought this was only supposed to be a one season thing. The other mom's wanted to make sure all the kids got a chance to be in the spotlight. To them, that's all the spotlight that they were going to get out of this show. They didn't know that the show was going to continue & that they were going get many more opportunities after that. Maddie was obviously going to get a chance to shine and perform at nationals for the finale. So, let the others get a chance in the other episodes. Melissa was definitely in a tough spot though. The producers & Abby definitely did this because it was always going to cause drama and make the moms fight. I see both point of views, but for that point of time and based upon their perspectives at the time, I agree with the other moms. Melissa should never have been put in that situation though

If you’ve ever dance professionally you know that the advanced dancers usually have multiple solos. I use to do ballet, jazz and hip hop … I would perform all 3.

At 1:05, Melissa is so wrong for what she said because like if your daughter gets 2 solos than everyone who has a solo should get 2 then cause it is fair to pull 1 of the solos since everyone else has 1 so it is not fair for your daughter to have 2 and that is one of the reasons why I hate Malissa because of that

Thier just jealous of u and Maddie that's all it is it would be wrong for u to take an opportunity away from Maddie or kenzie . Ok I don’t know how to feel because I know that Melissa wants what’s best for Maddie and Kenzie but at the same time Maddie doing two solos when the other girls only have one that gives Maddie twice the chances to win and will most likely take that over all spot. I do agree with Melissa and the fact that she doesn’t assign the Solos and it’s Ultimately Abby’s decision on who dances and who doesn’t.

It doesn't. Maddie is the only girl who takes tap in the group. So Abbey puts in a double solo for her once a while so she can compete with tap. Honestly I think Christi wanted Chloe to win,hence the whole conversation.

Christi saying that she did what she's asking Melissa to do literally proves it's not about Maddie to her, it's about Abby and Melissa. If Maddie has a tap solo and does one every year, cool! That literally doesn't mean she should do two at once, just have her do one and then the other next week. Quite honestly it doesn't matter if it's common in competition or common before the show started, no other kid before this episode or since did two solos on the show, this was about giving Maddie more of the limelight and more of a chance for Abby to showcase her favorite over everyone else. If it's so common, why wasn't the same available for all the girls while on DM? I don't agree with Christi's actions all the time but tbh I thought she was being reasonable with this.
