It's funny that a lot of people here are remarking that this piece sounds amazing despite being performed with 'Western instruments.' The reality of it being the piece was originally a collaboration composition with the intention of a Western orchestra playing it.

I know it was originally composed for Western Instruments, but I own a recording on Guzheng performed by Bing Xia and it is magical to hear it on a traditional instrument.

It was originally arranged by Mao Yuan for symphony orchestras in the early 1950's. The adaptation for Chinese traditional instruments was done later around 1953 by Peng XiuWen.

The best western orchestra version I ever been listened before! Even the chinese orchestra that I'm conducting now can't do as well as the western version. But both of them are different kind of style of music characteristics, I really love both beautiful version of 'Dance of the Yao'.

Well, I hope the uploader will add on the information. Anyway the information (song title, composers, conductor and orchestra) are already in the video (0:21). Is Peng Jiapeng related to Peng Xiuwen? Maybe their surname made you think so? No. They have different family background and education background, but both are/were great musician with great achievements in Chinese music development. +Janelle Wong No. We have to dampen the note there. There is a cut. And usually at a long note, we dampen the drum just a bit earlier then the orchestra so that we don't stick out.

I'm sorry correct me if I'm wrong, he did dampen it at 7:21 slightly earlier than the orchestra, but at 7:18 he paused the tremolo for like 0.1 second then carried on, to me it seems like he thought it was supposed to be as short as the three previous long notes.
