All that is true but I didn't get the sense that her heart is breaking with despair, being forced to dance at the betrothal of Solor and Gamzatti. I did get that with Natalia. I just need to look at her face once, never mind her breathtaking expression and the pathos of her dancing, to feel all that grief. That's what I want from an artist, personally.

She is always a very good actress on top of her incredible technique ! in the part of the flowers basket around 11:37 the orchestra is playing so quickly, I had to check the parameters of my video to be sure it was not speeding a little ! Very difficult to follow the pace, she did it of course !

There’s something about reserved precision that contributes a lot to this role. Stunning lines & stature, immaculate jumps combined with royal reserve and frustration really does it for me. I absolutely loved Zakharova for this role. But 14:53 from Nuñez was beautiful too.

osipova is my all time favorite nikiya. there is no comparison. the emotion, the technique, the heart. it is like her soul is on stage every time she dances. i think that is why she is so wonderful to watch--for some minutes, you forget all worries and corruption and see this beautiful almost-divine art from.

Osipova embodies the character of Nikiya. Her movement was a vehicle for portraying the personality of the character, not merely to exemplify her long lines. The other two did not convince me of any specific person or defined character role, just elegant execution of moves. But Osipova wins this one.

Marianela is extremely graceful, light and delicate, and fits well with roles such as princesses, peasants and fairies. For example, I don't like Marianela's black swan very much, as she seems very controlled. Osipova made a magnificent and deliciously devilish and seductive black swan. But Osipova's Odette didn't turn out very well, as Natalia added many traits of her black swan to her white swan. Marianela's Odette was perfect, tragic and melancholy with grace.

Really interesting tweak (or else I've just been inattentive) that Magdayeva is handing the Brahmin the antidote before Nikiya ever receives the flower basket. So this collection scores for showing different elements of production as well as three glorious Nikiyas. I've always preferred Makarova's music and staging for the flower basket dance, although I know it's not in the original production or any production derived from it. There's something so tender about the way Nunez approaches the action there. And I love the absolutely murderous "You!" she flings at Osipova, who is also a great Gamzatti. Thanks for putting together this great compilation. Nunez's phrasing and musicality will always speak louder to me than Zakharova and Osipova, but they're all fabulous!

In Zakharova's performance I see a dancer--a very good one (with an ill-fitting costume). In Nunez's I see a person; her face is always so expressive. But I don't think it's a great role for her-- her Manon has more real tragedy in it. Osipova's face and arms and hands are truly tragic; she's spell-binding in a scene that (to me) usually seems over the top. She's the one I'd like to see in the theater.

Zaharova is purely ornamental, no emotions at all. Nunes is rather good, almost brilliant (what happened to the part of Nikia's solo which is the most crucial and awaited in the whole ballet???). But Osipova really makes you follow every her move. Very good. Best of three. Probably the best Nikia of our days.

That is my best favorite snake dance performed by young age super beautiful Svetlana Zakharova at tht time. She has an exceptional expression from her face as a sad snake girl and unit style in this dance. No other Russian ballerinas up to now whom performed the same dance could match with her face expression. From this video,Nunez was the worst one among all. She skipped the most difficult fast movement part from snake dance, perhaps she was too old to dance with it at that time. I prefer the snake dance skill from Evgenia whom was not in this video, excellent ballerina dancing skill even a bit better than Svetlana.

Watching Osipova I could feel her pain , her grief and during the basket scene, it was like someone trying to smile through the tears of a heartbreak. Both Zacharova and Nunez and superb , but for me it is Osipova with her incredibly powerful and moving character interpretation.

Both Osipova and Zakharova have perfect technique in a very wide range of roles and Osipova has so much emotions conveyed in her dance, so she would be the most overall perfection of a dancer. @@natastudyN, with all my respect, I think your comment lacks support. Russians love circus and that's why a former gymnast (Osipova) and a dancer who dances with the stretch (Zakharova) are stars. Imagine both as Carmen... Neither of them controls the turns: one for a lot as a spinning top (piroutte is technique, very different) and the other for a little. Your mistake, it seems, is to belive that it is easy when, actually, Marianela makes it look easy 😊. On the other hand, Núñez has a broader artistic repertoire, you can study if you don't know or belive me.

@@paulagiliberto7386 I have the feeling there are too many ballet-teachers expressing their opinions: ballet is not just moving perfectly to the music, but the highest level of arts which starts with the character analysis, the space expression, the presence, followed by the pantomime and the perfect lines are only one single element of the art. To see in Osipova ONLY the the "lines" and calling all the rest as circus level shows me that your understanding of the ballet art stopped at the ballet bar level. I never saw in Nunez any character analyses, only, yes perfect arm-swings in the "lake of swans", but nothing more.
