People always judge Kiel about his choreos, but people don't get that this isn't a competition of hard choreographies, it's about musicality and trying to bring the message of the songs to the choreos, so the choreo depends on the song, it's art, it's not only about complicated techniques, it's about telling a story. For example, Blackpink choreographies are always judged, but they also have the most viewed dance pratice videos, people get obsessed about Blackpink choreos cause they can replicate them and they usually represent the lyrics of the song through movements, so it helps the song becoming more catchy. The dance performance is an important tool to power up the song, but it can not overcome it or overdo it, it's a great tool, but it's not the main thing (which is the song). I know kpop got a lot of attention because of their choreographies, but people has to remember the dance is the main thing in the dancing field, not in the singers field, and I think kpopers always forget that.

I really respect him and his work - lord knows how talented you have to be to come up with this much choreography and be hired by all the top companies. I just don't like the style sometimes (hylt, otg, xoxo all arent my cup of tea - generally whenever he works for yg) or how similar choreographies can end up being between top groups in short spans of time (bp, itzy & aespa all shared parts of choreo in the last year because he choreographed it, i'm pretty sure). But you're very right about the music being the focus of the song, it should be. And some of his choreographies are just top tier, I feel like he really 'gets' Twice and the group dynamic.

After Kiel’s commentary about Rose’s on the ground choreo and performance I can now appreciate the solo for its own art. In Kpop we’re so used to hard choreography and hard movements. But now with OTG I see the message of the song and artist clearer. It’s not about proving dancing abilities or proving she’s the best because Rosie is the best. OTG is about exactly that being humble, respectful, and continuing to strive for our own happiness while also helping others.

None of the k pop dance were choreographed because they wanted to proved the group was best. I am sure every idols can dance twice the hardly Choreography they are doing now. And about OTG the intention was crystal clearly, they wanted to focus on her vocals more. As much as Rosé voice is angelic she isn't the best with it comes to breathing control she cracks up a lot. So they kept the Choreography simple so she could focus on the vocal and the fact the name of the song is on the ground. I still hate the choro though...

They once said that groups exist because not all the members can actually sing or have a capabilities to be a soloist. If group members debuted as a soloist, then that means their group is actually capable of being a soloist like BIGBANG, EXO, BLACKPINK, Red Velvet, WINNER, iKON, etc. I swear, not all groups can be a soloist. Most of idols cannot really do it.

I love how he casually mentions that Jennie has a say in her choreo for SOLO, even if it's a little bit of it. I love learning what an artist contributes to their own project. SOLO has literally become one of the most iconic choreos in Kpop. Also, I know that she contributed to SOLO's lyrics herself, the overall aesthetic/fashion of the music video as well, and even the SOLO Diaries was her idea. TWICE's M&M and ICSM are the at the pinnacle of the most hardest choreos in K-Pop. What makes it even more special is that they have 9 members who need to be in sync to perfectly execute all the moves and formations. The more the members the more difficult is to remember all the formations but TWICE nails it every freaking time. They truly are the Dancing Queens of K-Pop.

Rosé's On the ground choreo is the most pleasing and clean choreo I've ever seen. Rosé and her team did a great job executing it if you ask me. The sync, the chemistry between Rosé and her dancers, the stage presence and her charisma was just amazing. And yes, it isn't the usual kpop choreo you see it's a PERFORMANCE. No wonder why the "money" choreographer won an award! Truly the most iconic, unique and the coolest choreography. Lisa is truly the most talented idol kpop has ever had. When I watch other solo idols except for a few, I can see the difference between them and their backup dancers, but Lisa always dances like a professional dancer. Her dance is smooth, the best. It's sad that Lisa hasn't performed on stage with this song yet. I find all of TWICE's choreographies very successful, my favorite group. I'm not a dancer but I LOVE learning about how these choreographer's plan and create for their artists! I find it so fascinating and Kiel explained things so eloquently and interesting. I didn't notice the different challenges in choreographing for groups (twice 9) and (blackpink 4) and how much that affects the dance being created. Now that I think about it four is an odd number in the formation and I laughed a little at the "shifted diamond" reference haha. 😂I think choreographers are amazing because they consider SO much when planning a dance to a song. They have to listen to the song, the beat, the melody, the lyrics, how best to highlight the song with movements the artists dance along to. They think about formations, and highlighting certain people or solos. Props to them really!
