Loved this concert. Wonderful to see such lithe and powerful dancers and the music was fabulous. Well done!

Were you then back in your times? As long as you are still able to feel the spirit and vibes of it, never mind that the limbs a no longer as nimble as they used to be. Also don't forget that performers benefit from audiences containing persons who are by own experience able to gauge the quality and effort the are putting into their performance. Enjoy!

So much Baroque music is made for dancing. It's hard to sit still and listen sometimes!

Loved the music, but the movement was totally at variance with it: jazz crossed with Rite … the jamming together of incompatibles …

Agree with this one. They should have stick with those original historical dances instead, I guess. Jazz environment is lil bit different from the court environment. But it was nice anyway, even with jazz. This music is just written that way, to make everything look good.

Thank you for these observations, and your points are well-taken! To provide a little context, the vision of the choreographer, South Chicago Dance Theatre founder Kia S. Smith, was a modern response to this historical music and specifically to a woman's role in the court environment, hence the juxtaposition of styles.

Great: but just having some women performing in modern style - “inspirationally” - says absolutely nothing about their role in old courts. Neither do their extravagant gestures say anything about women at any time or place or in any context, beyond drawing attention to their undoubted ability to perform gymnastics.

Ah, but seamlessly folding two incompatible (your thought?) into a celebration of the arts is, well, quite nice. Astounding and many thanks.

@@irmafoster3933”incompatible” not my subjective thought, but a statement of fact. The dances that wd originally have been mattied to the music wd have expressed cosmic order, shared social purpose, and wd have involved the paying of compliments. You cd superimpose images from a classic Western, or run a slide-show of Picasso, or shown images of a modern battlefield or of a moon-landing: and you could accompany those contrarieties with chatter about “ new perspectives” or “daring juxtapositions”, but all that wd remain hifalutin art-talk. Jus5 lo9k at the gyrations that go with ES IST EIN ROS - that tune’s not a dance, btw - the choreographer apparently doesn’t understand the text. More ‘innovatory re-purposing” …of dear , it is SO EASY to think/write like that …harder to harmonis3 with the minds of Praetorius and his contemporaries. Successfully to revive something old, now THAT would be a true innovation!
