@@natalielovesflowers A pirouette on pointe is more difficult than turns in ballet flats (slippers) on relevé. ... There's no judgement, only love for dance and excitement over sharing that love with as many people as possible. It's truly inspiring, and comforting for someone like me who, now in adulthood and able to support myself, can at least non-professionally pursue the dream. Great video. Josephine is the BEST! Well worth the hour-long drive from our home to The Pointe Shop. She fitted my daughter for the first time in July and it was an amazing experience. My daughter has been dancing en pointe for two years and has done several fittings, but none were ever this thorough. She even showed her what was causing her bunions (flattening her arches) and advised her on how to mitigate and reverse the problem. And it's working. We will need new shoes soon and will definitely be making that drive again to be sure my daughter has the perfect fit.
@heatherglenn14876 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your concern but, with all due respect, you don't know my daughter or her circumstances. We work regularly with medical professionals in order to maintain the health of her feet and her body and have consulted with her doctor about this. Since working more to correct the position of her foot, including lifting and strengthening her arches, the developing bunions are, in fact, reduced. So unless you are a podiatrist yourself and have examined my daughter's feet, please keep the unsolicited medical advice to yourself. Thank you.

@raraavis77826 жыл бұрын
Galastel Oh yeah....I looked into that actually (that’s how desperate I am...), it’s completely unaffordable. Bespoke can easily be 2000-3000€. What I meant was, it would be lovely, if regular shoe manufacturers would acknowledge that people’s feet have different shapes and offer different lines accordingly. Although some now have ‚wide fit‘ lines...but that doesn’t work for me either. They are just wider in the uppers, the actual sole isn’t. They should be named ‚big fit‘, not ‚wide fit‘ because they won’t fit a person with a broad foot any better than regular ones.

Am I the only one that this reminds me of Olivander's wand shop?
@AlexaFaie6 жыл бұрын
I thought that too! I honestly wish there were this much variety in regular shoes to take account of the different fit issues a foot can have as I seem to have weird combinations! I need quite a bit of space at the front, but have super narrow ankles so shoes tend to just fall off there even if it's the correct length. Plus such a high instep/arch that I can't deal with most shoes as they don't come up high enough on the sides. I do wonder how tricky it would be to fit me in point shoes. I did ballet as a kid and worked through the grades but stopped just before I would have ended up on pointe because my teacher was moving & I'd have had to switch to a big class and it was hard enough with the 4 of us as it was (I'm autistic and struggle in large groups) and then my teacher also commented that my thighs were already too large for me to be a ballerina anyway so I may as well just give up as they'd only get bigger when I hit puberty. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing or not that I never ended up doing pointe since I have hypermobile joints and already at 31 now have issues with my feet. It seems I've inherited my grandma's claw toes 😞 I reckon that ballet wouldn't have helped me out there... I do have some of those ballet boots (supposed to be fetish wear but I honestly just got them for the style & because I could pretend I can do pointe!) but it's not the same thing since they are lace up ankle boots and have a heel.

I was fitted by Josephine 2 weeks ago in Utah and it was seriously the best experience. These will be my second shoes, as the first pair I was fitted for are all wrong. I would never be able to advance in them. Proper fitting is key! As an adult with no formal dance training, she was so incredibly helpful. It’d never too late to start dancing, people! So glad I found your channel, Auti! :)

I did pointe for 9 years. It does hurt. Its excruciating at times. You bleed, you break nails, you break toes if your partner drops you, you twist ankles, strain tendons and get blisters so bad you cant walk but the feeling of getting up on pointe and dancing with passion is nothing short of exhilarating and soul stirring. Dont discredit the hard work and dedication it takes, but instead go see a ballet and watch how they move..I mean REALLY watch. Its breathtaking.

@AdaylnTheLifeOf6 жыл бұрын

If the pointe shoes were stamped out during manufacturing like our everyday shoes, I would agree, but they are hand crafted. Also, the dancer will *work* on the shoe further to meet her requirements which doesn't happen with our everyday shoes. To really address your question, custom pointe shoes are the solution to address differences. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6ipd6FsZ7qgo5Y
@wwaxwork6 жыл бұрын
I suspect it's to keep the shoes looking the same on the outside. A heck of a lot of ballet is about things looking pretty & balanced. So if one shoe is vastly different in looks it would ruin the illusion. Also you can customize them in a way people usually don't with street shoes.

@michellem36606 жыл бұрын
Ballet sets you up for life! It is so worth it and if you ever make it to pointe, it is no worse for your feet than wearing high heels or playing any other sport. Yet! You will learn the correct form of posture so you won't have as many pains as you grow. You will learn grace which is lacking in this world today. You will learn what to do with your arms and hands instead of just being awkward. Try it! It is hard work but so worth the dedication.

I was a male ballet dancer for 20 years and at one point did a role in drag that requires me to go on point It gave me a great appreciation of what the girls went through and I lost quite a few toenails. In three weeks I was quite comfortable but I had ballet training . This experience really helped my technique as one has to "pull up" and think your leg begins at just under your lower rib it comes from your core Nothing but respect for the incredible women who dance on point and do 32 fouettes when I can only manage 10.

I wish I stayed in ballet long enough to get my first pointe shoes like my sister did, but I’m happy where I’m at now and as sad as it was for me to say goodbye to ballet, I wouldn’t change anything. My teacher really is a nice lady, I think she just kept forgetting how young her students were. I’d love to talk her again since it has been years since I’ve last seen her. Edit: I had my last ballet class when I was 11 years old. I am 16 now and even though it has only been 5 years, it feels like it was a lifetime ago. I think about it often but now I’m in my high school’s marching band and I plan on marching until I graduate from college. I feel more at home in marching band than I did in ballet.

My 11 year was fitted for her first pair of pointe shoes the beginning of January 2021. She is in two different brands of pointe shoes (one is a harder shank-Russian pointe; and one is a softer shank-Bloch). This mama had to get both pairs lol. Her one foot is very flexible and the other is flexible but not as flexible, she was told both of her arches are very pretty, and I believe she tends to sometimes sickle, that foot is in a harder shank. She was very excited to get promoted, her ballet teacher gave her her letter on her 11th birthday in December of 2020. None of the dancers at her studio wears toe pads either. I found this video very helpful and educational. I never got to the level of dance to be able to go en pointe. So I’m learning through my daughters experiences. 🙂
