And now for my all time favourite quote in relation to how much of a masterpiece this song is especially on such limited hardware: "For a musician, the SNES sound engine is like an artist using Crayola crayons. Nobuo Uematsu used Crayola crayons to paint the Sistine Chapel." -Jeremy Jahns

What I love about dancing mad is the amount of symbolism and tension this song and fight gives off. For those who don’t know the symbolism of the song, Phase 1 represents Kefka’s lust for death and destruction Phase 2 represents his insanity Phase 3 represents his ascension to godhood and even mocks Michelangelo’s pieta and takes a piece of Tocata and fugue in d minor Phase 4 is Kefka himself and it even cuts to a sad part to represent that Kefka is going to die for everything he did
@ivorymantis1026

I always saw it as: T1: Rooted in ice, a wasteland that is and will be. Hell is the foundation of reality and existence. T2: Repetition, mindless ad nauseum. The mortal world is a cyclic mess that repeats its mistakes forever. T3: Ascension is Egoism. The only reason people strive to help others is for their own selfish desires. T4: *I Am* above all of this. I will destroy everything to free you all. t. hermeticist

It’s also a play on the divine comedy. Rising from the frozen and dark depths of a torturous hell, through the looping insanity of purgatory, and into the gates of heavenly paradise. And at the end, God tells Jacob what the meaning of life is. “Life... Hope... Dreams... Where’d they come from? And where’re they going? Such meaningless things... are mine to destroy!” -Kefka to the party right as you reach him.

Well, you don't get to stay as the main composer for the better part of the Final Fantasy franchise (in many senses of the word) if you don't ave plenty of inspiration. And even after he left, there's this company called Mistwalker, where all the ones who actually created that better part went after one mistake too much from Square...

""The world watched from below, gazing in fear, yet also a small, glimmering spark of hope. As they fought against Kefka, the deity himself attacked ruthlessly, attempting to end The Returners, once and for all, even if it meant felling the rest of the world a third time with them...especially if it meant that. Kefka's mortal childhood had not been the kindest to him, always being demanded around to learn the art of combat from a young age, rising the ranks until a general, prompting strategic warfare to be of aid as well. Everything the boy had been through, he hated. He never seemed to take any of it seriously, even as a Gestahlian general. General Leo, another man, was always much more popular among the mass population, and much more loved. Kefka had had a grudge against the man for years. But now, there was no need to even remember the names of all the billions of lives shed for this cause. As The Returners climbed the pieces of Kefka's demonic structure, they had no clue what to expect. Neither did Kefka, whom was placed into medical care by Cid all those years ago. A simple mental patient at the time, he had barely even heard of the term, "MagiTek", yet now it was being embedded into his DNA. Kefka quickly became less of a bitter man, and more overly eccentric, yet still insane to the point of men fearing his very name. Now the man was a living god, who would burn entire towns to the ground with the blink of an eye. The world was dead by his hand, and the only need for religion was prayer towards him. But would it last? Any of it? The Returners all had made it to the top, having destroyed horrendous monuments to the evil deeds Kefka had set into permanent stone. The entire band of warriors would not stop until Kefka was dead. Kefka, however, would not stop until everything else was dead. The entire world could hear the deafening blows from miles above; all praying to their new god for his very death. It was all up to them now. Could it be done? The War of the Magi had already led the world into a nearly irreversible apocalypse, and Kefka had already scorched the world since then to an even worse state. If The Returners couldn't kill Kefka...there would be no second chance. The small, spark of hope now seemed subatomic. Finally, somehow, the final blow had at last been dealt. Time itself seemed to cease. Kefka, the God of Magic, had finally fallen, and would now atone for his sins, his crimes against all living things. As the horrible entity fell from miles above the sky, he slowly blew away in the wind, as if simply a pile of dust. The world was no longer at risk of permanent ruin. Yet, what would become of Terra? Magic itself was vanishing swiftly from the universe; Espers, Magicite, even the remains of Kefka...would Terra succumb to these as well and lose her life to the sudden, swift change? There was no time to answer any of these questions as the tower was beginning to collapse. The Returners needed to escape quickly, lest they too be lost with the wreckage...""

When doing the boss fights your self its a whole different story. The adrenalin and our fantasy let snes & playstation sounds sound like apocalyptic orchestra and / or raging heavy metal arrangements. This special kind of genre / style (ff / bof a.s.o.) seem to direct touch our souls and take at least me sometimes to ecstasy like states. Only masterpieces like Dance Of Eternity, and the like, from Bands like Dreamtheater have the same effect on me.

Fact: Though Nintendo Power (namely in their strategy guide for the game) suggested this being rematches with the 3 Gods/Goddesses/Statues that were done prior to the final battle, the common interpretation as to the inspiration behind the first 3 sections of the final battle are the 3 segments of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy: Inferno, Purgatorio (aka: Purgatory) and Paradiso (Paradise, aka; Heaven).

Now, behold the destruction of life, dreams, hope; it is the fate of all things. 2:50 Heed the second movement, and stand in awe. Now, behold your former vain attempts at stopping the inevitable. 4:44 Heed the third movement, this is the power you oppose. @@ethanotoroculus1060 Well, since you went ahead and asked I suppose I could share with you that tale: Approximately 8-9 years ago, I went on KZbin and listened to an upload of the Distant Worlds II version of Dancing Mad (if you haven't heard it yet, go and do so, it's pretty great imo). As I was listening to it I started writing a comment, but mid-sentence I was overcome with a very inspiring sense of "No, I _do not_ want to write a comment that's just going to disappear in the sea of comments! I want this comment to _become_ something! I want it to stand out! Imma write me some goshdarn poetry!" Aaand the comment didn't disappear in the sea of comments... Quite the opposite, in fact; it got _a lot_ of attention. In fact, it got so much attention that when I one day down the line ran a google search to see if I could find the poem again, I actually did end up finding it... but not, to my great surprise, on KZbin. Rather, it had been posted a little here and there and all over the place. I started occasionally googling the poem, basically just to keep an eye on it, but eventually basically forgot about it... Skip forward to a few months ago (actually, maybe it's more like a year or so ago by now...) when I came across the poem by pure chance in the comment section of some Dancing Mad remix. It had been posted by Nicodapeek and since I was pleasantly surprised to have come across the poem I decided to reach out and strike up a conversation. We chatted for a bit and, yeah, that's just about it, I guess... Now I’m curious; what would the original creators think of these remixes, especially ones that take their songs into completely new genres. Would they be proud that their work was loved & remastered, or upset at the “corruption” of their piece?

Probably pretty stoked. Marty O'Donnell actually praised a jazz remix of a Halo song. Uematsu has mentioned that he was self taught when it came to music so he'd probably appreciate the talents of a gent like GaMetal covering this absolute masterpiece of a theme

I'm not huge into metal music (most of the songs I hear are too slow) but this is an exception. Awesome work on Dancing mad! A lot of the remixes I hear are too organ-heavy or similar, but adding your own style to it works really well. Disclaimer: I love organ music like in Dancing mad and Castlevania (case in point Bloody Tears), but some remixes only focus on the organ and not the choir and other things, and since Dancing mad has a lot of organ, its nice to see a remix like this that breaks that seal and enhances the song in the creator's own way. Its also nice just to SEE a performance of this song, and its definitely under-noticed because of the popularity of One-Winged angel, which is still a really awesome song, but many are missing out on Dancing Mad, which is a little better than One-Winged Angel. Although it might not be fair to compare them too much since they are very different styles of song, but whatever. Sephiroth is kind of lame as an evil villain in comparison to Kefka's actions in FF6, which is the main reason I like FF6 over 7 (not by much though) is because of Kefka being a more interesting villain. I loved FF7 and the remake a whole lot, and I think FF6 deserves the same legacy and even the same treatment as 7 in the form of a remake. WHY DID I WRITE ALL OF THIS?! NO ONE'S GOING TO READ IT, MUCH LESS CARE! Isolation from the outside world is getting to me... EDIT: I liked my own comment, looks like I'm going to hell! If that didn't do it, I'll start saying "thanks for all the likes!" On all of my comments and use a bunch of meaningless emojis, that will definitely seal the deal! 😘😜😔😥😔😞😚😍😄😜😔😥😭😰😭😝😁😉😘😣😁😰😂😖😎😲😎😬😶😱. Me being self aware here TOTALLY isn't like bait, and even being self aware about being self aware also TOTALLY isn't eith- I'm done. If you read all if this, I'm sorry for wasting your time. I'm bored.
