I love that Amatsu uses the underwater leviathan skeleton from ages past. Unpopular opinion… I actually enjoyed those fights. Back when Lagia was dangerous lol, and monsters like Gobul and Caedaeus were around.

You're not alone. Underwater combat had a lot of potential to increase the monster variety, given the amount of different underwater creatures in the real world (alive and extinct). Yes, it was a bit clunky back then. But I hope it will return one day. I guess that one issue was actually the Insect Glaive. Probably the devs didn't come to terms how to implement the beetle and the jump attacks/mount mechanics underwater. A solution would be that the Insect is covered by a bubble and works like it does on land. Mounts shouldn't be possible underwater because the hunter can't use his own weight against the monster, since gravity doesn't really play a role there.

I love it when an elder's presence has noticeable effects on its environment. I was quite impressed in World when Kirin's presence had a storm thundering above, a heatwave effect when Teostra was present, so on and so forth. Really encapsulates the power of these creatures. And makes me feel even more hardcore when I make my cat beat them up.

This monster was ridiculously easy in High-Rank with the Charisma Prowler. In G-Rank he's a pain with as a cat, and it's "suck-in-and-summon-tornado-move" was even with the final Ahtal-Ka armor almost a oneshot. However, I still love the "Heavenly God of Calamity"

My favourite elder dragon. His fight’s fun, but in terms of look, music, sound design and atmosphere, Amatsu is on another level entirely. The only monster that imo even comes close is Vaal Hazak. Also, I always figured Amatsu was a male, because those whiskers look like a big long japanese style mustache.

If we were rating monsters based on atmosphere alone, Amatsu is number one from me: the music, the attacks, it's majestic roar and the victory screen/fanfare are just so epic!. Amatsu is also the most fun fight with 4 prowlers since you can just burrow underground to avoid the crazy wishy washy shenanigans!. Kush; you may be my favourite ED overall but the emperor of the winds must bow down to the dragon deity of the storms...

@Michael Windsor the first comment was tornadus and gyarados, a water/flying and a flying. Your original response was that it shouldn't be since they don't use lightning. I responded saying that gyarados learns thunder, an electric type move which makes lightning strikes. Therefore the analogy gyarados and tornadus isn't wrong. On top of that I'd like to say that amatsu doesn't even use lightning based attacks, they are in the background. So if it was a Pokémon it wouldn't even be an electric type and more likely be a Pokémon that is water/dragon with the ability levitate that also has access to electric moves. A better analogy would be a mix between gyarados and hydreigon or gyarados and latios/latias since gyarados has the shape and water and the other ones have the ability levitate therefore never touching the ground and the dragon typing. Another possibility is replacing gyarados with kyogre since it's water with drizzle and has a shape closest to a leviathan than the other drizzle users (politoad and pelipper).

A missed opportunity where you could've told Cotton some of Amatsu's background. So, when you get to Fatalis, try using a little theory on how it revives itself. A Fatalis' cells are extremely flexible when adapting to change. It bonds with the materials in the slag made from armor, adapts to a volcanic habitat and a high altitude habitat. But the most terrifying aspect is how this theory leads to Fatalis' resurrection. Similar to Dire Miralis' heart, Fatalis' cells continue to live after death even after being carbonized to make armor and weapons. Due to the carbonization, the cells cannot self-replicate to heal on their own, so they adapt. They begin to override the living cells of whatever they are touching, namely the hunter who wears the armor. It would explain the legend of how the armor seems to grow over the user, becoming a part of him/her (or perhaps the other way around?). Eventually, the hunter's mind starts to erode away as the assimilation gets deeper and deeper until the hunter seems to vanish and sightings of another Fatalis come soon after. So, do you think this theory is solid and Cotton would be creeped out by it?

Something I recently remembered due to finally unlocking the hunter rank required to hunt the event Fatalis: There are no subquests on Fatalis, never, and considering that he doesn't drop anything and you can't cut the tail, in order to get its items you have to ride the pain train to lucifers doorstep all the way.

Iceborn was something Capcom didn't plan for until the game sold well, so the leaked list only has leaks from the base game, which means Oroshi and Alatreon probably won't be in world. And even then, I highly doubt josh would let us wait for over a year just for Alatreon.

I see no reason why said leak list cannot be continued. Those were like the last two that weren't applicable. Imagine, an Ice Unicorn without Ice, it wouldn't have made sense. Yeah they probably would/could shoehorn it in there but now it makes better sense. And I would see no reason to exclude Altreonfrom these videos. Getting the experience in an original game, then seeing the majesty and power in MHW would be a shaking comparison. I will say, I think it was something lacking in many of the monsters except Kirin and Lunastra in MHW.

The cloth arch behind your head for the Amatsu armor is actually a reference to Buddhist gods like the Japanese Nio guardians, mixed with Shinto priestess garb. In Japan, the outfit basically screams “holy”.

There's a theory that i think is called the "brain-in-jar-theory" that states that because everything our brain percieves are electrical signals. technically we could be a brain in a jar that is constantly being hit with signals so lifelike that we would never be able to tell the difference.
