Ken Takakura, whom Momo talked about, is a very famous Japanese actor who gained great popularity in the 1960s as the star of yakuza movies. As her friend pointed out, he is now recognized as a symbol of a very old-fashioned type of man, and it's rare that a young teenage girl like Momo is a fan of his. Momo's short skirts, drab socks, and arrangement of wearing sweaters and cardigans over school uniforms were all very popular among Japanese high school girls in the 90s and early 00s. As you can see, the show is littered with retro tidbits everywhere.

just a small cultural reference: Momo and her two friends are part of the gyaru subculture, usually characterized by heavily styled hair, bold makeup, fashionable clothing, and often a rebellious attitude. The girl with tanned skin appears to be a 'ganguro gyaru', while Momo identifies as a 'kogal gyaru'. This is also reflected in the length of her skirt as noted at 2:45. For context: "Kogals often shorten the length of their skirts by tucking in the top part in order to expose more bare leg. Cardigans are often worn above the school uniform and commonly in pink, white, or beige. Loose socks are an iconic part of Kogal fashion"

FYI: It is sometimes not exactly clear, but the Ken Takakura thing is that he is a famous Japanese actor especially from the 70s known for being a tough, cool guy (he was often called the Japanese Clint Eastwood back then) who had a famous line in a commercial "I'm just an awkward guy." So Momo has a MASSIVE celebrity crush on an old tough guy actor (and her first boyfriend kinda looked like him so that's likely why she dated him but he was an obvious jerk). Then Momo certainly has a reaction to Ken saying that famous line and happening to have the same name. I have heard this series described as a wholesome romantic-comedy set inside the most bizarre horror universe ever! I absolutely LOVE it so far and I hope you both enjoy it, too! But it is definitely weird!

Shows that are animated this well are the reason I -personally- looked at that animators' inside joke in "Invincible" where they broke the fourth wall. Lol. Invincible s2 took over four years...this and shows like JJK do not seem to have such an issue. Sry, I comment whatever is on my mind whenever I'm cooked out lol so Invincible is catching strays for no reason xD

Lol I've been wondering when you guys were going to start this show yesterday. The series incorporates a lot of western and eastern pop culture references. Also yes her skirt is very small because it's part of the gal culture where they dress flashy to stand out and go against japanese norms of conformity.
